Curved Beak ***PICS ADDED*** Beak Trimming????

Not sure what the dog tool is on TV but we use a Dremel tool for grinding our dogs toenails down & it works great so I thought I would try the Dremel for the beak......when I get up the courage!

You can trim, but if she has a place to dig in the dirt and file her own beak down, you won't need to do it again.

As long as you don't hit the quick or the bone in the beak (just do the clear part), you will be fine. Or, since it's not a crossbeak, give her some rough paving stones and put bird seed on them so she has to peck and naturally file down her beak on it.

She is still in a cage yet....no dirt to dig in yet. But a piece of a paving block might do if I can find one (under the snow....now w/ice on top) Thanks for the idea!

I have seen trimmers for dog and cat toenails that is supposed to trim nails in very thin layers, almost like a sander but quiet. It doesn't take off chunks. You may be able to use this and may be less of a shock to her than snipping off a chunk of her beak.

I haven't trmimed her beak yet. I have been trying to hold her more & she is so scared all the time, I thought silkies were calm.

I want to get her over the fear of being held so then I can trim her beak, otherwise I am afraid she is going to freak when I have to trim & I don't want that. In the mean time, she is fine & eats well but prefers to take it out of your hand, I think she gets a better grip on the food that way. She is definately the same size as the others & so cute & pretty!
