Curved Beaks?

Hmmm, on second thought. My friend the vet tech insists that it's cruel to trim their beaks because they're loaded with nerve endings and won't be a part of it. Is that true?

If their are social media trade groups, ("farm swap pages" etc.) in your area, I would put a picture of that chicken on there and tell where you got, and mention that he told you it was because you were stupid and fed the same thing thousands of other people feed, and not smart like him. Experienced chicken breeder that he is.

I thought about it, but something like that can get you kicked out of the group. I may private message anyone that comments on his posts though.
If they kick you out of the group for being honest and warning people about bad breeders and liars, then perhaps it's for the best. Who knows who else on there has experienced the same thing. And how many people who are depending on the word of others in a group to keep them from doing the same.

OMG that's a serious defect .....I doubt trimming will do anything to help it.

I agree with the 'call him out by posting that pic' contingent......if the group leader is honest, they'll kick HIM out the group.
and if you get banned, no loss, IMO. Maybe message the group admin first.<shrugs>

Gads that ticks me off.....there's a lot of dishonest people out there.

I'm absolutely livid.

I lurked on here for years before I got chickens and was so excited to see chicks of the very breed I always wanted come up for sale locally. I should've backed out when he said one came out with only one wing.

I've got a trough type feeder that I can take the top off, I'm bringing them home in one of those baby coop/runs so that I can wet their feed for them (I don't want to ask my friend to go to that much effort and they're feathered enough to not need the brooder and lamp now) and they can stay in that for a couple weeks until Dad is done building my big coop. Gonna keep a close eye on them and if it gets hard for her to scoop up food I'll cull her :'(

This is not how I envisioned this going.

Is there a way on here to find if there is a *good* Buff Orpington chicken breeder anywhere near me in Illinois? If I end up culling I'll want to replace them, I'd like 6-7 so that we have enough eggs.

If you type your state in the search bar, you should be able to find your state thread, and I bet they will know of reputable breeders near you.

Thank you.

Didn't really turn up anything searching, but there is someone selling month old Buffs a couple hours from me that I messaged. Friend just told me we actually have a hatchery about half an hour south, too, so might go there.
