This morning when I went to feed and water the birdlies, one of them was leaving drops of blood in their footprints. I found the bird, then the wound. Her behaviour did not seem in any way abnormal.
I've isolated her in my bathroom cleaned the wound with hydrogen peroxide. She was panting after the application of the peroxide, but has since calmed down. The wound has gone from gushing to a trickle and I hope that I can release her back to the flock. It's 10 degrees outside and everything is wet and melting, so I can't imagine how I could keep any gauze or bandage on her.. I don't know how to keep her clean and dry other than locking her in the coop, but that would mean continued isolation. I can't keep her in the house. It's probably not the cleanest thing for us and the dog's presence is probably not calming her.
She seems to trust me. I don't know what to do for her. Any ideas or am I doing as much as I can?
