This chick was chocolate colored when hatched and now it's getting barred?? It had the white spot on the head at hatch and it's brother/sister did not but was also chocolate colored...will add her picture soon. Could the one with no spot on the head be female possibly. This little guy is NO doubt a roo

Here is his sister/brother from the same parents: It's the brown chick closest to the blue wheaten to the right of the picture. So what are your thought on this? Her comb is small yet as well. His comb is huge for just six weeks old!

Cross you made similar to my dominique hen x American game rooster. Dom hen, like Jaerhon hen, carries one copy of barring allele on her Z-chromosome. She passes that chromosome to male offspring only so they will be barred. Her female offspring get w-chromsome which lacks barring gene so they will not be barred. With my cross the base coloration of dominique is extended (all) black which is dominant resulting in birds being all black if no barring gene operating. I am guessing in your cross a brown / red base coloration operates resulting in brown if no barring.

I was thinking that had to be the case because all the girls I hatched out were not barred...he was the only barred I got. I think I need to get more jaerhon hens

Now I KNOW brownie is a girl

AND all the other brownies as well lol I did sell them as girls so I was HOPING I was right about that thought.

He also had the white spot on the head too

Easy to see which are hens and which are roos right from hatch.
