I use hemp bedding because I just feel too guilty about chopping up trees to hold animal poop. The hemp has little hairy fibrous pieces, and I noticed when I cleaned out the brooder today that the chicks collect the fibrous hairy clumps and put them under the brooder heat plate.

So just a few minutes ago, I went to check on them, and the one we call Dark Tiger has dug a little round nest out in the corner, and collected the soft fibers and put them inside haha
