any idea as to what breed these "rescues" are? a friend brought them to me today

Buff Orpington

They get big, fluffy, and have a beautiful golden color.

Are better pics available? (preferably side or back shots too?) I suspect possible Red Sexlinks, New Hampshires or even Production reds. Although Orps are very possible as well!

I just need a well lit pic so I can see the color of the chick

Red Sexlink might be it. New Hampshires would have a slight copper hue.

right now Im letting them dry out - a friend rescued them from a man who didn't like them much and had them with a wet duck and they were all cold and wet.... one chick has dark gold stripes and the others are all fuzzballs

My buff orps chicks were buff colored from the get go, while the red sex links were very orange colored... With the buffs the buff down was replaced with feathers of nearly the exact same color, while the sexlinks grew in white wings and are turning dark red everywhere else.

I don't think they are orps... Are they getting their wing tips in yet? What color are they? I'm leaning more towards sex links than orps. My orps were a uniform buff all over. No darker or lighter spots...
