I'm still new at raising chickens (started last fall), so both my hen and I are new at this hatching babies stuff!

I let my Japanese Banty girl sit on 6 fertilized foster eggs and was completely shocked when she successfully hatched all of them. 5 were definitely "born" on Saturday, May 2nd, and the 6th was either Saturday or Sunday. Hooray!!

Poor things probably think the camera is their Momma... then again with all the flashes I was worried they'd go blind. I finally had DH come and take the picture and use the zoom lense.

The tricky part now will be to figure out what these little boogers are exactly. I know the daddy was a jet black banty roo - meaner than the dickens... I have been paying special close attention to their combs to see if anyone has anything more than the other - so far just one. That'd be great - 5 hens and 1 roo, but I have NO idea what I'm going to do with all these bantys when they grow up!! I'm hoping the girl that gave me the fertilized eggs will take a couple.
