They say to wait until you are tired. I sometimes have problems too. Lately I have been watching Looney toons and Tom and Jerry and I fall asleep so quickly now. :idunno Don't know why it works. Probably it stops all that dumb thinking that happens while you are laying there. Other times I just stay up really late, than I'm tired the next night.

If I wait until I'm tired, I won't fall asleep until like 6 AM the next morning, and then I'll sleep all day the next day. When I was constantly trying to correct it, my sleep pattern would go entirely around the clock, with me falling asleep an hour later each day, but now if I stop trying to correct it, it just appears that the time I fall asleep naturally is significantly delayed.

Wow. Sounds like you would be good working the night shift. It can be hard to straighten out an odd sleep pattern like that.

Does it help to wake up earlier? Are you getting too much sleep during the day? I can see why you may feel mentally dull.

I have a hard time waking up earlier, LOL. I sleep until I wake up naturally. I think I've had this sleep problem since early childhood. I recently got a fitbit to track my sleep: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/sleep-tracking-watches.1337463/page-6#post-21898388

I'm not too good at mornings either, but it can help to reset your clock. Another thing is lights. I will sleep longer in the winter because of the lack of sunlight. In summer I wake up earlier, so maybe you could play around with some of those full spectrum lights to help you wake up.

I was raised on a farm, so I had to get up at 5 am for decades. I'm not anywhere near a morning person. :thI have type 1 diabetes. My blood sugars like to rise up in the am, so it also makes it harder to wake up for me.

I have used one of those lights, and I think it helped, but I didn't use it that much. I got the fitbit specifically for sleep tracking, I don't really wear it much during the day. I've always fell asleep late, and then slept in, but I feel like it got worse when I was in 5th or 6th grade. Also, sleeping during the day has made me depressed.

Than you may benefit from setting a time to get up and get up at that time no matter what. I find I could sleep all day if I really wanted to, but it's not healthy. If you sleep too late than you won't be tired the next night until later. Training yourself to a set number of hours may help.

Do you know approximately how much sleep you need? I like 8-9 hours, my husband does good on 6-7 hours. If you know how much you need you can adjust your sleep time. Too much sleep isn't good either.

I always wondered if putting a light on a timer would help to wake up?

What's your diet like? Sometimes a deficiency can affect moods and sleep. I find I need a b complex a few times a week to perk me up, or I'm dragging.

I'm not sure exactly how much sleep I need, I need to collect some data when I fall asleep naturally. I don't have too specific of a diet, but like I said, I've had this sleep issue for a long time. A light on a timer could help, but I've never tried it.

Does your state have the time change?I believe the clock is moved back one hour. In spring clock is moved ahead an hour. Very weird. Upsets sleep patterns too.

I've read a Native American chief said "Only paleface thinks you can cut a foot off the top of a blanket and add it to the bottom to make it longer. Very wise chief.
