D.I.Y 5 Gallon Bucket Gravity Feed Duck Fount.

That looks like a lot of feed could be dragged out of it, or maybe ducks don't do that?
Interesting enclosure too.
I dont fill the pipe all the way up, and yes the enclosure is interesting. It's like a 20 year old manger for cattle so I decided to put it to use. I needed something fenced off so the sheep dont get into it and something that had a cover so the feed doesnt get wet.

they will have all of them dirtied up in no time flat.
the life time goal of ducks is to see how fast they can dirty up the water and splash the pan dry.
So I got home to a gallon of water in my kitchen floor seems my old plastic bin has a crack at the bottom and my wife said the ducks where splashing away all day...to my shgrin no one noticed the leaking bin because my rug under table soaked it up. The bucket held up well still had 3 gallons of water in it. I also Threw toghter a mini version of Aarts feeder using (2) 2 liter bottles.

`I can't tell you how many feeders and waterers I "invented" over the 50 years I played with chickens.. and cows and pigs..
once you start, you always come up with a new better one.. it's as bad as chicken math..
Boy, that's for sure!!!

I also Threw toghter a mini version of Aarts feeder using (2) 2 liter bottles.
Here's my mini with a quart yogurt container and funnel that fit just right.

Had to do some trimming on the funnel to get bottom gap right:

Also have a couple of these using 1 liter bottles, this is the 3 bay, also have a 5 bay.
These are not as 'waste-free'.

Stream lined the design and built one for the ducklings on our brooder after changing water multiple times. I went with the following.
(3) buckets,
(1) lid
(1) rubber grommet
(1) 8 inch 1" pvc pipe.

(1.) I cut a 1.5 inch hole in bottom of first bucket then slowly file and sand it to fit grommet. This is the most important step and should not be rushed. Test it for leaks and holes around grommet. If you mess up don't worry just used this bucket for step 2 and try again.
(2.) Cut this bucket in half and discard bottom.
(3.) The Third bucket I cut out (12) 1.5 inch holes 3.5 inch from bottom of bucket around sides.
Slap on lid, flip, fill in pipe, adjust tube for water level, drop on 2 other buckets, flip agian and have fun watching them figure it out.
