Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Actually while this is an excepted theory its also told that the blue coloration was bred many times over and over by some breeders in holland. While the ducks kept being bred some of the offspring began to get darker and eventually became black, this one was the one I've gone bye and is the accepted theory of the BCDC (The British call duck Club) :)

I haven't read it exactly that way before, but it makes sense if that's how it happened. Blues have genes for black, so if you mated two blue ducks, you should get some self blue, some self black, and some splash. That should give you a path to blacks that breed true in the future generations.

I doubt it, but could my one black drake be crossed with EI? I've seen EI's around at swaps that I don't think were pure. They just didn't look as "flourescent" as pictures I've seen. He might be like, F3?

Sorry it's blurry, he was waddling away from me pretty quick.
I can't tell for sure about yours since it's hard to see the detail, but it looks like a possibility. Can you get closer pics from a side and from the front?

The ones you've seen at swaps may just not be good quality. The extreme iridescence you're used to from shows isn't common in the lower quality EIs. The pet quality ones don't have that same sheen, but their color can also be influenced to some degree by how you house and feed them. There are other things you can also do to enhance their appearance, like rubbing a silk cloth over their feathers.

No offense taken at all, and I didn't think you were implying anything meant to be offensive. I'm a terrible liar as well because even if it's a fun thing like this where I'm not actually lying, I have trouble keeping a straight face. I'm actually giving myself away right now because he's obsessing over this now that we have our first little pip, and I keep laughing at everything he says. He's finding that suspicious. Since he's pretty sure something is up but doesn't know what, he has now convinced himself that Silkie chickens will be what hatches from this group of eggs :lau
will have to fill us in when they hatch.

Got a better picture of my green dude.
400

he's my least tame, it's the best I could do. He's greener in person.

Ohh I wish , I could get him, but I've already have a maximum number for my call duck at 10 until we can move our farm over to our bigger property of 200 acrs which right now is being drilled for oil :(
