Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

TBH, not really...I know I'm being stubborn and perhaps a bit irrational but I'm dead set on another call duck. I'm in love with them, if I get another high quality one I won't have to worry about different sized diapers, and there could be the possibility of babies in the future. :3

Oh well. We have EI babies due to hatch this weekend and I had planned to see if you were interested once I see how they come out. Of course nobody on here will get to see them since you won't let me post them in this thread

Black East Indies are bantam ducks & very close in size to calls. The diapers should fit both. Some people cross the 2 breeds thinking indies are just black calls.

Hmmm...well, I wouldn't be able to breed them but I DO love BEIs...

Me too! Also I spoke with the hubby, he has his heart set on call ducks. So we may have to hold off on that ._.

What really gets me is that even some breeders list them as Calls on their websites. I actually decided not to buy anything from one breeder earlier this year because he listed the EIs as a variety of Call. That tells me the breeder is either dishonest or doesn't know their own ducks very well, and I don't want anything to do with either one. I don't see how a breeder could mistakenly think that since EIs look nothing like Calls other than size similarity.

I think you're right about the diapers, but I don't know anything about duck diapers. Even if they aren't very adjustable and couldn't be snugged enough for an EI being thinner than Wobbles, are they that expensive? I wouldn't even know where to buy them. Maybe they could be pink for the duck to easily tell them from Wobbles blue ones. LOL.

You could breed them since the sizes are very similar, but I'm trying to think what you'd get. Silkie might know about that. I'm thinking F1 would look look like a black bibbed EI, but less streamlined than pure EI and less round than pure Call.

Silkie--Have you ever seen anything from this kind of breeding, or do you know what you'd be likely to end up with?

I'm open to the idea, but I'd have a really hard time selling the G1 babies and as I said, my hubby is very dead set on another Call, not just for sizing (Wobbles is VERY small, even for a Call Duck) but for compatibility and breed specs. He's fallen in love with their round cheeks and personable nature. Not to say BEI's aren't also friendly, but Wobs is the only duck he knows and, well, he's a creature of habit, and he'd also rather hold off and get a snowy or chocolate.

I'm torn, I'd love to have a buddy for Wobs and I'm pretty desperate for him to bond with ANY other duck, but on the other hand 1) I also want a Call, 2) I'd be paranoid about shipping a duckling and 3) I couldn't forgive myself if something happened to your baby en route!

My hubby is partial to Calls as well, and I'll let all of you in on a secret. (He knows I come to this site, so I really hope he hasn't started coming here as well...)

He doesn't know that half the eggs we have in the bators are EI eggs. He thinks they're all Calls. I wish I could record his reaction when he sees the EI babies, but of course that would tip him off to something being up. I wasn't dishonest with him. He just never asked, and I never brought it up.

I can see why, after all that's how black call ducks were created. :p But since Wobbles is show-quality Hils would tell from the larger beak and flat head. Also I kinda already told him the differences between the breeds. Dang it! Hehe...oh well. I couldn't be manipulative or underhanded if I tried, especially not to him. I'm a terrible liar.
