My babies aren't little anymore

Also little Mickey is my only girl she is on the far left of this picture and there is of course Ricky who is there adoptive mallard brother and Tickey is on the far right :)

I'm really hopeing my little Isis is a girl too because that way it would be equal for the calls if my magpie I'll be getting next month is a boy

Question about breeding: I know calls have a short laying window, but what about the drakes? About how long do they still go around mating the females? You'd think that they'd stop once the hens quit laying, but I'm honestly not sure.

So, as all of you know, I incubated and hatched Perdy's first three clutches of babies. Then, she built a nest of nine and hatched her fourth clutch. I would say 40 eggs her first breeding season is pretty wonderful. Her first egg laid on Valentine's Day and her last (before going broody) laid April 5th. And, I thought after going broody she was done for the season. Well, I went outside to feed her and the two daddies today to see her frolicking around in their coop. She's built another nest and has 2 eggs in it so far. I don't even have her on Layer Crumbles anymore, so needless to say I'm about to be taking a trip to the feed store. My girl isn't done!

My normally mate until they go broody....

You would think so! Mine are
still going at it everyday though!

This is Wobbles first mating season as well, isn't it? I really thought after going broody, they'd be done mating. But no. After a couple weeks, we rehomed Perdy's little brood of six. All to the same loving family. And, after the babies were gone, they were right back at it. Now, it appears Perdy is going to be a momma again. She LOVED being a momma. It absolutely broke my heart to have to rehome her babies. It took about a week for her to really become herself again and not mope around, look for them constantly, or cry ): Between the two daddies, one has become aggressive during the mating season. Funny thing, he was the friendliest of my three before Perdy started to lay her eggs. I guess it'll be a while before he calms down for me as well.

Yeah, it's his first. So on top of the fact that he's basically a teen boy with raging hormones, I worry since he's been alone for so long, it's too late to un-do his conditioning that me = mate.

Your Perdy probably started laying eggs again because there is still a lot of time left in the breeding season. Mind probably stop because I don't let them go broody until mid June.
