Annarie....the brown/ red color on your duck there is that her feathers or clay mud. 2 of my new ducks have that color in their feathers too. Ive only had them a few days and got them when it was raining so thought they had wallowed in mud but the person I got them from said nope..its their feather colors. 1 of mine is also a silver with the red clay colored feathers on her belly and face. Could she throw brown babies if I hatch out eggs

Nope, not mud...that's the actual feather color. Mine have a Blue Fawn daddy and I assume a Butterscotch parent somewhere in their ancestry, so they're not "pure" Splashes...I guess I was using it as more of a descriptive term.

Since I'm not 100% on their genetic background, I have NO IDEA what color babies they'll throw. I'm going to hatch some eggs from them next year just for fun to see what I get!

I am SO jealous of all of your Calls! I would have a chair in the middle of that pen and sit all day watching them.

I only have 14 and I see shots like this and just know I need to enlarge my flock by about 5 times!

lol I know I refuse to count and see how many I have. My hubby is making me sell some and I have already sold 7 before that picture was taken.

That's awesome! Good for you! It looks like you are raising some beautiful birds.

Thanks! I managed to make it 2 in a row by also winning at Connersville #2 a few weeks later!

Tough competition there too...Connersville #1 was placed with Rick Penrod's duck as Best of Breed with Art Lundgren's Reserve, and one of mine, "Scrapper", was Best of Breed in Connersville #2 with Rick Penrod's as Reserve. Both starred wins at those shows with 100+ Calls in the Call section! We didn't do quite so well at Ill-Mo this past weekend, but put in a respectable performance still, with my one Butterscotch drake pulling Best of Variety in a class of 25 and one of my self-black pullets getting Reserve of Variety in a class of 9. I should mention that the Butter drake is 5 years old, so the old guy still has it in him!

It would be interesting to see what Sprinkles would produce with that black drake. Someone over here, and I am thinking it is Blackjack, the sire of that drake, threw me a blue bibbed when all the Calls were running together early this spring. My thought is that the black could help lock out that penciling in the offspring but help hold the blue in a blue duckling.

I've been doing some brain-picking on blue bibbeds from a couple of folks, because I just recently got a pair of blue bibbed and also a pair of self-blacks that are cropouts from a pair of Pete Dempsey blue bibbeds. The blue bibbed are also Pete's line, so I am hoping to match the blue hen with the self-black drake and vice-versa with the blue drake and black hen. This pair of blue bibbed came from a pair of blue bibbed, so they will need black added in somewhere in order to hold the blue and not have it fade to rust as the offspring age. Some simply super type on the self-black female, the blue drake has a huge bib and the female blue has some of the necessary white flight feathers, although she should have an even number on each side, which she does not. But spring is shaping up to be interesting! I have a Silver Appleyard Call female that is probably going to be on loan to me to breed to my Fuller line Appleyards; she has a lot of refinement to her but she is old. She is producing nice eggs right now though, so spring has a lot of possibilities!

I hate you people... You people and your precious little call ducks.... I can;t have anymore ducks, that's too many inside... esp. loud female calls... you people make my life difficult!!!!

Lol LOUD? LOUD? LOUD doesn't even come CLOSE!!!!
My little Rory is an angel and only wakks when there is a good reason. Mr Snoogles is an evil genius and has learnt if he keeps it up I will start worrying about the neighbours and bring her treats. And Doog...Doog! Doog has a very special wakkk with a loud indignant squeak at the end that bounces off the walls of the nearby houses and literally HURTS your ears if you are next to her! I have the best neighbours in the world! They think it is cute and funny! EARSPLITTING! That's what they are!
And my little babies!
They do a little happy dance everytime they see me.
I do a little happy dance when I see them too!
