Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Angel wing is when a wing sticks out away from the body. It can be just the feathers tipping outdated and it can run clear back to the joint. If it is mild it can be treated by vetwrapping the wing against the body and sometimes it can cure itself within the first year after their final baby molt. I do not recommend breeding anything that has angel wing as it seems to be genetic and will pass on to ducklings. It can also be caused by improper feeding as ducklings. Mainly too high of protein being fed to ducklings. If you google angel wing you will see pictures.

Looks like mild angel wing. Vet wrap the wing in the correct position and then do a figure 8 around the body with the vet wrap to hold it against the body. Sometimes it will correct itself if yu allow them time out where they can flap and move their wings about more. If you search angel wing on BYC you will find the threads that show you how to wrap it, this style problem is usually a weakness in the wing muscles.

I have a serious problem with one of my ducklings. I don't know how it happened, but it has managed to cut its bottom eyelid across he bottom and down the middle so there's a fleshy bit hanging off. It has pus everywhere and the eye is horribly swollen. Is there anything I can do besides the obvious keeping it clean? If needed, I can post pictures, but I didn't post them now just in case there's some squeamish people on here. Please let me know if there's anything at all I can do, its not dealing with it on its own very well at all.

get some vetricyn equine wound and infection spray and spray it in its eye two three times a day. Of the skin is split you will probably need to get it stitched for it to heal back normal. It will take some time for out to heal but it will heal. I had a duck puncture a hole clear through her bottom eyelid this year answer i got out to heal using the vetricyn. There's nothing in it that is harmful to the eye.

I'll try the spray, thank you, but I don't think it can be stitched together. The entire bottom eyelid is hanging off. It's sticking out away from the head and it's only attached at the very front.

It should be able to be stiched. I had a horse to get her entire top eyelid ripped off and it was hanging on by less than a 1/4 inch in the very front. Three layers of stitches and a $100 it looks good as new. If it hangs there it will probably dry up and fall off

Then it will have to fall off

I can't take it to a vet for stitches anyway and I certainly can't do it myself.
