That makes me sad about Scraps. When you say smooth does it mean her body or feathering was smooth looking? My female zebra finch hen is smooth and I always tell her so. I am glad Puffers gets spoiled. She deserves it. Does zoomie ability or speed then depend upon the breed? Like, aren't 'scovies pretty heavy so not as prone to being such zoomers? But the funny thing about those ducks is in pics I've seen over in the 'scovy thread, they're perching on top of stuff. It's funny.Puffers gets tons of kisses on a regular basis, and treats, and spoiled. My son did the same with Scraps, his little smooth showgirl...but sadly, we lots her to the cold this winter.
My best land zoomie ducklings were runners & khakis. Best water zoomie ducklings are calls, mallards & rouens. Pekins are pretty zoomie the first few weeks too. Muscovies tend to not get the zoomies so much.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Tootsie Roll, hoopitoons, ittyboon, tiiiiny little sweet ducklet full of fuzz and chocolate webs. And peeps too that I can hear. Luv love the little dark bill and lighter chest. She so active and rambunctious. I am overjoyed and in orbit over this one. Congrats AMYKINS!!Well, get ready then, Sputnik!

GOOD NEWS! Baby #2 is out and resting, AND egg #3 is still alive!!![]()
I did the float-test and it rocked back and forth. I still see some veining in the shell and I witnessed it pushing against the air cell membrane, so I think it's just a late bloomer. A very late bloomer. I put it back in the incubator and I'll check on it throughout the day.
Here's the new baby! (Don't worry, the heat is cranked up to 85 and the humidifier is on full blast. She was also only out of the bator for ten seconds while hubby took the shot.)

Showgirls are typically silkie feathered, but she had regular (smooth) feathers because she only carried 1 silkie gene instead of 2. Puffs is definitely a very spoiled bird, as was Scraps. My son will pick a new baby to spoil once we start hatching this year. He always seems to pick our oddest looking bird...lol Scovies are just generally way more laid back than other breeds. They are heavier than other breeds but fly really well & perch like chickens. That makes me sad about Scraps. When you say smooth does it mean her body or feathering was smooth looking? Yes, I can ship but the only waterfowl left are the pair of pilgrim geese. Lacrystol only lives about half an hour or so from where I am moving from, so she picked the calls up at my place.Quote:
Oh did you ship them???
She might just have a lighter chest or end up losing the white feather if there are not a lot after her first molt...Yeah, I was hoping for pure self-chocolate, but bib or no bib I ain't complainin' as long as she's healthy, and she's actually a she, LOL!

Heehee. Thanks, Amy. That would be fun to come up with names for her. I have a litany of crazy made up words that I squeal at my birds frequently. Good thing I live alone. One time I had a boyfriend over and I was kissing one of my finches and making all these silly noises and he said, "geez, Julie, that's really sexy." Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down. Perhaps she will be able to teach him to zoom.Ha, you should help me think up a name, you're awesome at making up adorable words! And who knows, maybe she'll teach Wobbles how to be a zoomie. He sucks at it. Like, real bad..
