eight places out of nine entries is not bad I thought. One and Sixandahalf didn't want to show so I'm lucky they placed at all.

That is so awesome. Your babies did great. I am not surprised that Snap got 1st. He is a stunner. I think One's a doll. Why didn't he and Sixandahalf not wanna show?

I think because the stewards had put them on straw overnight then come through first thing and changed them to wood shavings and took away their water. Right after that happened I came through to check on them and tidy up by the time the judges came through the two young boys had a beak-ful and went into a defensive crouch ready to take off someones finger LOL if you can't get them to stand up they can't be judged on conformation so it's a big point deduction. The fact that they still placed is a good sign that next year they will probably be winners.

How old are they? My smallest looks the size of the darkest one, second from the left.

I know it really depends on quality and size, but if we're talking a nice quality, 4H call... how old would that be?

A nice quality call should never be the size of a mallard. They ahould weigh no more than 1.5lbs.

I agree with what minihorse said about size/weight, but can you tell me what you mean by a 4H Call? Do you mean one that would be adequate for kids who belong to a 4H club?

I feel kind of silly asking this, but one of my ducklings in our youngest batch so far this year makes a beeping noise like roadrunner. Have any of you ever heard this?

Yes, I mean the quality in which a child in 4H would show. That's what the person I got them from had the calls for. They're not top of the line, elite quality, but they're definitely on the nicer end.

You're not understanding what I mean as for size. I know a call should never be mallard size

. What I'm saying is: Those are young mallards in the picture. My call is the size of those young mallards currently. Based upon that information, how old is she? It's really hard to get pictures of her, because she's very skittish and I can't get within 10 feet of her. The other girls always surround and protect her, so you can't tell her size unless you catch them eating or swimming.
