I currently have four dachshunds, and two more before them, so I have owned six out on the farm, and I can tell you when they get together as a Payk they absolutely are one of the most aggressive prey driven animals I have ever seen. We have had two wire hairs, and four short hairs. They once found a fawn hiding in the bush and honestly tried to take it down by jumping up and biting at its chest. If they encounter a baby rabbit, it becomes fatal in seconds. Same for mice. And any insect that happens to land close to them. I absolutely love the breed, and we run them out on the farm property and in the forest without the need for leads, and yes, they are extremely stubborn and they very often “cannot hear“, and are by far one of the yappiest most vocal dogs. They can be a real handful, and because they are stubborn Germans, if you miss the .2 second glance that you get telling them they would like to go outside, they just eliminate inside the house without a care. After all, you should have caught that sideways glance or read their mind! Absolutely love the breed, I will never be without at least two in my life. But, I am thinking of getting chickens, and there is absolutely no way those chickens can be free roaming. Besides, the coyote population here is also extremely high, which requires extra precaution.
