Your little girl is precious!

Wow, is Decker giving you eggs now? I seem to remember you getting her a friend. Is that right? What is her friends name? I must have missed that somewhere.

Mr. Dad,
BTW that coop has come a long ways! What a nice one too! I have a question. What is the significance of the wire under the roosting area of 2"x 4"? I would be afraid that during the middle of the night one of the chicks may get their leg caught in the wire and hurt themselves. Maybe you could explain. Thanks.

I've been worried about that myself....

I saw that design somewhere....I forget where...it's to keep the birds out of the poop.....there is a 17 inch opening between the first pole and the back wall and these guys are still being trained to sleep there....I think if they could they'd sleep under the poles in the poop....I just came in from putting them up on the roosts.....

If I've made a mistake please say it (that goes for everyone)....I know I'm a newbee and can take constructive criticism

Hi Freebie.....Decker has been laying all along I just didn't know it...I found them in the yard..... then when she slept in the dog carrier she went back in there to lay about 9am like clockwork.....she is something....and really healthy looking now....bright red comb/wattles...full of spunk...doing real well.....

Her friend is a RIR we named 'little red'...I call her 'red'....her eggs aren't as big as 'Deckers' but almost as regular.......

We have six red sex-link pullets coming to a farm a little firther north of us in early June....I just have to make sure their beaks aren't trimed (we have to call them)....something about that I don't like....jmho.......

I should have made it bigger.....I'm already feeling limited.......

Great looking coop. I'm in the process of trying to design a coop, my daughter and I expect to get our pullets (8-12) possilby tommorrow. I have a small brooder made out of a clear plastic storage bin but I need to to get started on the coop. What is the size of your coop? How many hens do plan on keeping? Thanks
