https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/...site&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=emailI dont give any calcium but its supposed to be in the feed. They get layer mix and layer pellets and generally the eggs are good. I have to work quite hard to crack them, and when I toss one out for the young crow, they bounce! I have no idea how old Regina is, so some soft shells may have been practise from her, havnt seen any in a week or so.
We got a little respite starting yesterday - a bit of cloud and some soft rain. Great news for fire affected areas and great for us as now we dont have to worry about fire. Its normal for it to be very hot, Australia is more desert than anything else, and even without the heat wave I'd have to chuck any eggs I wasnt sure about, they would begin to go off in a day.
Ive been watching on the news about the big freeze. Its hard to believe.
Im going to tear my hair out over these chickens! One of them laid in Reginas nest this morning - not sure how they managed that - by the colour it was certainly chicken, long and oval with a big ridge around the middle. Anyone seen them like that before? I get them like that if they havnt laid for a day or two and sometimes they are double yolk.
Do you have any idea what happened? Thanks! I no it happens some times!
An older duck is up to 7 eggs and a duck from June 2013 hatch has laid it's first this morning! -23 C this morning.
Thanks! I no it happens some times!
