Maybe it's that time of year.
I had 2 yolks only laying on the ground this week from my khaki's. They have their normal feed and oyster shell and free ranging, all as usual.

Okay hatch day for you first week in July but maybe incubator set to high and may hatch sooner, gotcha![]()
I am seeing some soft shells too, my almost 10 yr old duck is laying them and I found one in the chicken laying box the other day, sometimes hot weather can cause them and sometimes at begining or end of laying cycle they can lay them ,so unless we see them alot there should be no worry especially if they are getting good feed and have access to oyster shell and other means of calcium. I'm thinking with my duck her hormones are not working like they use to she didn't lay for probably a year and is now doing this.
I'm thinking your adoptees are too young, sounds like your older girls gave you a bonus.Last month I have only 2 female jumbo pekin and 1 male.. sometime, they lay 3 eggs a day. Last couple weeks ago I adopted 4 male and 4 female (over 3 months old). Today I found 3 eggs again and I'm not sure if the new ones start to laying or my old ones just give me the bonus again.
If you want you could try adding a bit of extra calcium to their diet with some mashed up peas. or just peas, I use coral calcium and calcium gluconate mix it up with their peas. I use 1 tab to 1 cup of peas but since i have a pretty big flock of layers including my hens I use a 32 oz bag of peas and 3 tab of the calcium in it mix it up real good and serve. I use one one feeding and the next time they get the other one. I do this 2-3 times a week.Hmm yes I think the bator IS a little high....
Found another soft shell every day outside. Its weird because the pekin girls always put their eggs together, so theres 2 in the nest every morning and then someones dropping the soft shell outside near the food and water dishes. It is getting into winter so maybe end cycle...But these girls dont really stop. I know they're getting enough calcium because before when I had issues with feed they just looked awful, everyone looks great now.
My chickens have stopped though, or hidden nests incredibly well. My australorp is way too spoiled, she comes and begs for a bit of my lunch every day but hasnt laid an egg in months!
I think you're right.. I just got another 3 eggs today.. I guess I let them free range the last few days at day time really make them happy and.. I got bonus.. maybe I should let them free range more often.. just one little issue that.. they love my herb bushes..I'm thinking your adoptees are too young, sounds like your older girls gave you a bonus.

I got 2 more eggs yesterday so 5 duck eggs in a day total (include 1 soft shell eggs) so i'm pretty sure that my new adoptees are laying now. I'm guessing that they're a little older than what the old owner told me.. Cool.. we love duck egg and our friend too. They're very rich flavor and great for baking or make egg salt.I'm thinking your adoptees are too young, sounds like your older girls gave you a bonus.
I'd say your right!!
