We recently got rid of our Rooster because he was being really rough with the girls and tearing up their backs. One girls in particular, Hazel, has an area on her wing that is completely featherless! It's about the size of a quarter. It's been well over a month since we got rid of our roo and the feathers do not seem to be coming back, now the are has turned a bright red color. I'm wondering what I need to do to help her out. What do I do to keep the area from burning? We considered putting sunblock on her daily but we would have to reapply throughout the day and neither of us are home from about 6am to 4pm, prime sunshine time.

Have you thought about putting Blu Kote on it?
I wonder if that would help protect it from the sun?

I looked up red kote and blu kote. As long as the skin isn't raw...it might be ok for the wound. I don't know it would be sun blocking though. That's what you're thinking Kiki?

I was wondering about the physical barrier sunscreen...but you don't want the chickens eating it.

People with naked neck chickens...their chickens' skin is very red but I don't know if it gets worse that the red?

so I read a little on both blue and red more. Blue sounds liked more of what I'm looking for. Her skin isn't broken open, it just is sunburned. im thinking the blue kote will provide a mechanical sun barrier as well as discourage pecking. luckily the other birds havnt been pecking at her, they've been too busy pecking at my turkey.
