I think 2 girls is fine with only one drake
The biggest reason we need 4-6 per drake is so ducks are not being teamed up on and with only be drake that will never happen

It really depends on the individual Drake. 2 ducks will often not be enough for one drake and will be overmated. Hopefully that's not the case in this instance.

It does depend on the drake for sure
My mom and dad would happily live life just the two of them
He respects her so much that when she says no he doesn’t push it and leaves her be. The other drakes however don’t take no for an answer with her but do accept a no from their hatch mates
It’s funny how a drake will find a true love that they put on a pedestal while the others they will run down to mate

I am sad that drakes are so easily dismissed. Poor things need to learn how to mate just like any other animal. Yes they can injure a female that is when we step in and separate but just get rid of him? I don't know why but I have never had a drake hurt one of his females to the point of having to remove him from the girls. They end up losing some neck feathers which is normal duck behavior they have to hold onto something. But to just get rid of him hurts my heart. So many drakes rehomed because they don't measure up to our standards no wonder there are so many dumped out yearly.

She cannot see out of her right eye because of scar tissue from my former drake. I kept my drake for five years before rehoming him. He got worse not better during that time. I utilized drake jail but the time he was in it got longer and longer. Before I rehomed him he was losing weight and looked miserable in his jail. I found him a good home with two female Pekins. I am hurt that you think we rehome out drakes “just because they don’t measure up”. I had to help hatch that drake and loved him dearly. I did what I thought was best for him and my girls. In the wild, ducks can fly and get away from aggressive drakes. But, in suburban back yards, with ducks that can’t fly, we have to help. Drake jail or separation is great if you have the room. Many of us do not. If we were farmers or a little more cold hearted, we would eat our drakes. Instead, I spent a month finding mine the best home I could. I am going to rehome my current drake, the old ones son, because he is also picking on this female. Add to that he grew way bigger than expected. I respect you immensely but I disagree with you about this. I would rather trust that people do what is best for them and their flocks.

I am sorry if I offended you or anyone else. I know drakes can be rough on females and that many will be rehomed because of it. Not pointing the finger at anyone in particular just saying many drakes are dumped yearly and that breaks my heart.

Not me. I know how hard it is to cull any member of the flock because they are pets and when I had to rehome my drake who I raised from day 2, I thought for a while I might need for my handyman to take and slaughter him. That broke my heart and I was finally fortunate to have found a farm sanctuary where there were no other ducks and he would have no competition or anything to compete about! They love him. My handyman on the other hand was disappointed after hearing of the delicacy of muscovy.

Dumping is easy and wrong. It would be more kind to cull. Rehoming on the other hand, to a good home, is the best choice when necessary.

I would like to know if anyone has some suggestion/s for what to treat the area around the eye. The female now has damage to her eye area caruncle. It bothers her because she is shaking her head and never did that before this happened repeatedly and became obvious.

I would just use something like Polisporin or other OTC antibiotic cream, two-three times a day.

Veterycin is another good product you can use and is safe for the face. Be sure to use spray or the antibiotic ointment when time for bed so she doesn't just go and wash it off.

I am kind of amazed your drake is still mating my Muscovy have finished molting and mating for the year.
Guess I forget about when they were young mine are 10 and 11 yrs old.
