Is it normal for chickens to be out and about in the rain?

Mine were today. I have only anecdotal thoughts here—but mine tend to go to there roosts when it rains really hard and / or gets dark, today was steady light rain with normal daylight and they were out all day long.

X 2, mine will also go in if it's cold, as well as the above situations.

I have some that stay inside and others that run and play in the rain. Then they get that wet chicken smell and looked like they stayed in the shower too long...

mine will be out in a drizzle or light rain, perhaps good bugs in the rain.. but if it's a heavy rain, they hang under the porch.. they only use the coop to roost and lay.. they would rather be out in any weather..

Rain brings out the tasty bugs, and frogs, and worms. I like being out in a light rain.

My Bad Kids (the ones who refuse to stay within the electric fence) were having a field day today wondering about pecking at the ground. we're at 1.98" of rain since midnight.

it was a rainy day here in n.y. too.. off and on rain.. yesterday, it rained all day.. i got 1 egg from my 8 girls..

Mine never come in out of the rain, it's like they don't even notice it. (Dry climate, we rarely, if ever, get heavy rain). They certainly don't run for cover when a drop (or an afternoon's worth) gets on them.
