I have two pekin ducks that are about 4/5 months old. I believe it’s a pair. One is really loud – a female, and the other is a little bigger but does not quack per se. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been noticing the female do some kind of dance with her head going up and down.

What is she doing? Does this behavior have any meaning?

I call it my females Bossy dance. LOL She will start to do that and the male will just follow her and kind of hiss back at her. Both my female and male do that.

It kind of reminds be of duck boxing "bob and weave bob and weave"

That head bob means a couple of things I think. It is a come on to the drakes, but it can also be used to try and intimidate other hens. My bossiest girl Shelley does that to the newbies all the time.

Thank you for your replies. That's exciting!

My drake was checking out the chicken coop yesterday ... maybe they are looking for place to do some hokey pokey together.

My duck only does it to the drake. Especially after they've been apart for a minute or so, then they run to each other like crazy and she does the head bob. Sometimes she does that just out of blue, too.
