Dang Crazy Hen....Nugget is REALLY Broody (BABY PICS! Three of 3 Out)

just wanted to say thanks for the advice you gave me 3 weeks ago about my broody hen. yesterday, on Mother's Day, she hatched 6 out of 7 eggs! (we've still got hope for #7)

Aw, they're beautiful. Nugget's little ones are all eating and drinking just fine. She is in a true state of maternal bliss and now loves us again. She lost her mind until they were all hatched, but now, she has her personality back.

Cynthia, do you still put a heat lamp in for your chicks that are hen-raised? mine seem fine without it, for now at least, but i didn't know if i should be adding supplemental heat. thanks.

Nope, not unless it is the dead of winter. I have a light bulb in there for light only, but no heat lamp. Mama does it all.


I opened the broody pen which is set back about 3-4 ft from the main double doors and let Nugget out into the "hallway" with her three babies. I had to rearrange the straw in the pen and she just went right out the door with her babies in the 60 degree weather. Amazing how much they will run around out in the cool air at just two days old before they act like they're becoming too cool.

As they grow, I'll post pics in Raising Baby Chicks or Pictures and Stories sections since Miss Broody Butt isn't acting like a psycho any longer, just a proud mama.

OMG they are beautiful but that Rose is gorgeous!

I sat Thor on my lap today and told him all about the babies and I got the "bruuuuuurrrrrrrr" of approval.

I cannot wait. Warn Nugget thatshe will get a hug too for a job well done! I shall bring baked goodies for everyone and something special and blueberry for Suede.
