Dang Crazy Hen....Nugget is REALLY Broody (BABY PICS! Three of 3 Out)

Tomorrow is Day 11 and I candled Nugget's eggs. Dutchie has some 'splainin' to do! His manhood is now in question since none of the four Ameraucana eggs were fertile! Also, two of the Orp eggs weren't fertile, one of Meg's and one of Dusty's. Now, Nugget is down to three eggs from nine. She still has one of Smoky's, one of Meg's and one that is either Smoky's or Meg's, not quite sure. All BBS Orps or Orp crosses.

My Barred Rock, Dutch, is only two years old and has 18 hens. His manhood is now in question! This is the very first time the Ameraucana eggs haven't been fertile. He'd better watch it--my blue wheaten Ameraucana cockerel, Levi, is 11 weeks old now. He'll love those bearded ladies; that is, after they quit trying to kill the new boy in town.

That is just too many women for the poor guy. You need more roosters! How 'bout I send ya a few!

I had Dutch and his younger brother,Mace, in with 30 women. Dutchie refused to share! Lockedhearts has Mace and about six of my BR hens because of those battles. I think maybe the three Delaware hens I still have are the cause. Dutch spends too much time on a tree branch roost we have across the corner of the pen, keeping away from those little wattle-snackers.

I'm serious! Ivy is going to pass away soon. She and Lexie are my oldest BRs, over 4 years old. Becca and Amanda, half-sisters hatched from helmstead's flock, are over 3 years old. Then I have Ivy's daughter, Fern, who is over a year old. And then, there is little Barbara, Fern's daughter, who is just 11 weeks old. lockedhearts has Dutch's brother, Mace, and six BR hens who used to be mine, so my BR numbers are dwindling. Maybe next year, I will hatch a bunch of nice BRs and get some Buff Orpingtons from Jody, which is where Nugget came from. Nugget is such a good broody and a very large girl, what a Buff Orpington should be.

Day 13! We're 2/3 of the way to the finish line.
