LOL, we had our "brooder" (a cardboard box with a heat lamp clipped to it) in our bathroom, right next to the toilet. The stink was bad, and you couldn't escape. The upside was you didn't have to look for a magazine before you went in there

If your TSC puts the babies out in a stock tank, anyone and everyone can handle them! Talk about a disease nightmare! I will never, never, EVER buy a chick from that place!! Plus, they are lying to every customer about the states requiring personal information in order to buy chicks AND about giving healthy chicks antibiotics as a "preventative".

Ok, have I turned you off to Chick Days at TSC now??

Havent convinced me yet.
Mine doesnt want my info. I have specificially for reasons like this a fake adress and name and in my TSC they got DO NOT TOUCH signs and they are serious about it.

<--------------- Has mental picture of you sitting on eggs

I myself am going to wait until September as well to get more chicks. Ima gonna get 30 more pullets. That way they will turn 20 weeks old in spring and be prime for laying on time

My 20 pullets gave me 19 eggs today.

While anybody can handle the chicks at the local TSC, no one has ever asked me for my info or told me to give the chicks shots. How is your state doing with NAIS? Sounds like Govt. work to me...

mine yes are in a tank ,but they never ask 4 any thing except ur zip code only cuz i used a credit card & the register prompts them 2 ask ... i went 2 day & she scaned the box to ring em up & rang my waterer & feeder up & that was all & i was on my way
their tanks r clean & so is the feeder & waterers so i will buy from there again

My DH called TSC Corporate and told them that NO state requires them to track who buys chicks. They argued a bit then said, well the state suggested it would be a good idea...but I live near the juncture of TN/NC/GA and have visited TSCs in those three states. They are all saying the same thing. It's TSC, not the gov't doing it, at least at the moment. He told them (and she wrote it down to report it) that we would never spend a dime at TSC as long as they took personal info like that for no reason.

I think it's good that you are boycotting then. So far we have not had any problems with TSCs in Texas, except that their return process is RIDICULOUSLY complicated, even for a $3 feeder, yeesh!
