Gosh, Aubrey, how many pens do you have?

I can't believe how many colors you have and are working on as well! Amazing. They're still on my list to have one day soon. My flock numbers are lowering so I'll have room... down from 55 to 38 chickens so far.

sounds great, just let me know, not counting this years, I think the NPIP tester and I came up with 185 breeder d'anvers last time he was here, not counting all the other stuff, think total is was 300+ birds, gone be double that with ease this next time around.
As for pens,
working on finishing up the 50th one right now for bantams, have 24 with all the breeder d'anvers in them now and that's no where near enough for all the new color projects (d'anver and bantam phoenix)
so adding on to both ends of the main run. Couldnt have picked better weather to start doing this, what is it 105-115 heat index right now every day??

Just been putting it off as it cost so much to build new ones any more, but with 5 , 3 foot by 8 foot brooders stuffed and more hatching every day, just cant put it off any more.
Oh well, off next week so I get the new 26 finished then, honestly I will have to build another 20-50 over the winter to get ready for next years breedings, got plans for about 25-30 new colors all together just in d'anver not to mention 15 or so in phoenix and all the other bantams we have, glad I live on a big farm!

Kind of funny in another thread I was asking about color combos a year or so ago, people only gave me 1-2 projects and told me I be done with 1 or 2, too much pen space needed, guess they didnt know me as well as they thought!

Geez, the heat is brutal this year! I'm not as hot as you are, I'm sure, being at 2000 ft in the mtns, but we are having weather that rivals the hottest part of summer here and it's hung around for weeks already! I'm ready for fall now. How do the D'Anvers do in the heat?

me and you both, it's been that way for a month here now now, my AC runs non stop from 8 in the morning to about 9 at night and still cant keep up dreading this months power bill!! And like you ready for the fall
The d'anvers dont even act like it's hot, their pens are half covered have open sun, most of the time they are out in it scratching around like its nothing, about 12-3 they'll head into the shade and cool off, but have yet to even see one panting.

Can anyone tell me how my chicken will do in a show? What quality she is? One of the breeder's hens was in champion row......My girl doesn't have that many tail feathers, but I think they'll grow in.....nothing will hurt my feelings, tell me the truth. Here she is:

yep, they do fine in it, we had one of the coldest winters in years here last go round, actually SNOWED! We hit the low 20's and teen and all I have here is open 3 sided coops in each pen, no heat and they do just fine in it. They are very thick meaty birds and like you said with the beard and small combs, they really have nothing much to worry with in it.
