d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I think we'll have to put that chick down. It still hasn't grown and it becoming weaker, in spite of drinking and eating on its own, though I've seen a decrease in its feed consumption in the last couple of days. Sure has heart, though, to keep going for over a week.

hate to hear that Cynthia...yall tried at least

We always try, Aubrey. Guy at one of the feed stores who helps out the owner once told me when he gets one with a short back, he immediately puts it down, that there isn't room for the organs to grow and it just indicates all sorts of internal issues. At the time, I hadn't experienced that so wasn't really sure what he was talking about, but he seemed to be informed about diseases and such so I filed it away in my mental notes. Then, I had that Sussex chick out of one of their Ideal shipments that was exactly like this D'Anver baby; she just never grew and died at two weeks old. Her wings were much longer than her body and she couldn't even hold them up, just like this little tyke is now. It's so pretty, one of the darker colors, so I really hate it.

JJ, that little dark one with the eyeliner is fiesty. Sure acts like Rusty, LOL.

Aubrey, great pictures sure helps alot. I also appreciate your comments on LCW1995 quail. It sure helps to understand comments on type, as much as it is on color.

Cyn, I am so sorry about the chick. No doubt a hard decision, when you obvously have a chick with heart, but you will make the right one.

haha,
I dont know...??? some people kill me on what they think is a big money bird... those show girls were named wrong to start with, there aint nothing showy about them to me...pretty much like JJ said, they look like a fluffy buzzard with mange if you ask me...

That is the sad thing about d'anvers too though, they are so rare in most areas that most wouldnt know one outside a " belgian quail" (what they call the entire breed) if it flew up and spurred them in the face. Those are the same crowds that to them a bb red , mille fleur are the name of the breed.... not old english and d'uccle.....

finally hatched my first goldneck today by the way....

YEAH!!! A gold neck hatch, awesome news. I know you are looking forward to seeing what you get and how the mature out. I too like JJ's comment about the "showgirl" poor roosters and "fluffy" buzzard with mange, funny!

I hope all of us can help put the D'ANver on the Most wanted list.

Nice pics Aubrey, those millies look a lot different than mine. Guess I have some work to do with them. I am going to hatch what I got in the bator, but I think I will switch to the dark rooster. My silver quails and bb reds are fertile again, must have been the roosters molting.

Cyn, be sure and show some updates on the one with the eye stripe, I might have to drive to Georgia when it turns out to be a roo.

JJ, I was sort of wondering if you were thinking along those lines. This little critter is already acting like Rusty so it has to be his chick, just has to be. I'll get a picture of him in a little while for you.
