I had to quail pullets but late last week one just went up and missing; no feathers, no blood, no nada!! Down to one, and TWO cockerels, all are coming up on 12 weeks and I don't expect my girl to start laying now, but I will have some more come spring. Absolutely love the d'Anvers, even convinced a friend of them and she will be ordering some chicks come Spring.

Inquiring minds want to know: at what age do the d'Anver pullets usually start to lay? How eggs many per season/year?

Mine usually start at 6-8 months of age, but they are seasonal, here it's March- Oct. nothing when it's cold.
Hens vary a lot, especially by color. To me and from what I have seen, the more common the color is (quail black, blue quail etc) the better they lay. Also varies hen to hen too.
But on average, when in season a good hen will lay 1 a day to every other day at worst. Rare colors or weak hens well, some may not lay but a handful each season, 50 is a good average on rare colored hens....
