Oh, guys, is there any chance that this kid of Carly's is a pullet? The comb was red two weeks ago, but it's now over 5 weeks old and the comb is still flat as a pancake, not raised at all. The black in the hackles was also making me think male, but if you recall, Carly herself has quite a bit in hers as well. What do you think? He's really super small for his/her age.

Not sure, but I think you got one of them late bloomers there. I don't think the color in the hackle means much, because I have some 7 or 8 week old pullets that started out like that. But none of their combs are that red now. Hope I am wrong but I am guessing roo.

yep JJ,
Everything you get from a F1 cross to a recessive white bird will almost always be black.
Yours carry recessive white and silver and quail now
so a back breeding will get you some of most all those.
I have never done the cross so not sure how clean the white will be. Rec white only mask color, so it is almost always bad about a little bit of leakage coming out over time. Usually 1st year birds are clean, but after the first adult molt, males will often get a yellowy tint to the duckwing areas of the body. Being based over silver does help this a lot. My white phoenix are over silver and 100% spotless, so I'm betting it will help clean up the over all color in the long run. Being over a pattern and not a solid like black though, I'm not 100% sure the long term effect

will just be one of those wait and see deals, but like I said, has worked great on the phoenix
Yep, I am going to try and make me some whites. Them $6 a piece eggs are out of my price range,

i know these are some crappy photos but i broke my good camera so im stuck with this crappy one
wondering what gender these are or if its still to early yet
the black project chick i just noticed is getting some gold/red breast feathers coming in
they just came in today as they were not theyre yesterday
Cole,
I was just about to say, see that aint a black, it's getting laced breats feathers...haha

it is a brown red for sure... they are just a pain to tell at a few days old, but once tghose feathers start lacing up you can tell pretty quick, most likely a pullet, males would be like a bb red without the wing mark

JJ, that is awesome!

Oh, that chickster suddenly looks very roosterly. I had him pegged for a male two weeks ago, but one day, the comb didn't seem to be getting larger so I second guessed myself, something I seem to do quite well.

I took new pics for the ad today and yup, he's just a tad late getting the comb to pop up. Silly thing, trying to fake me out like that. He's just so small for going on 6 weeks old!

You can see that Mina's comb is nowhere near that pink at 9 weeks old:
