d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

As far as buff or salmon colors, I'm not real good at describing them. The Chipmunks breast is tinted with a deeper, darker orange color. I'm not sure if that info really helps

It'll be a pretty good one once it finishes out, you can already see the reds and golds coming in on it. That's one thing that's been hard for me on them, those buggers change a lot in the crele chicks as they grow. Had some start as black cuckoos end up making really good looking birds in the end.

Mccaff - Oh no :( Thats really sad. I'm sorry that happend to you and your chickens.

SpeckledHen - Thats really great, I am happy to hear he is getting better. Hoping for the best!

My 2 week old Blue quail has cream coloring showing up on its breast and shoulders/back area. Its really light but its there. It also doesnt have red coming into its comb like the other two for sure boys. Does this coloring mean pullet? Or roo?

Also wanted to share a picture of how tiny this new chick is.
That is so Cute!!! Love them!!

Well We have bigger problems than the raccoon getting my chickens outside. We have chicken wire only on the inside dividing areas, but I used bigger welded wire around which I shouldn't have. So we have put .5 inch all the way around. However, the HUGE problem we now have...my 12 year old, Ben, ran down a couple of nights ago that there was a raccoon in his room (on the 3rd floor of a solid brick house), well I didn't think he way lying and one of the a/c furnace units is accessible in a closet in his room but my husband, Steve, looked all around and told him basically it must have been his imagination playing tricks on him or our main coon cat. He refused to sleep in there ( I didn't care, Steve not too thrilled tho, LOL) He left to go see family next day, well 1 am am my 20 year old, Justin, comes knocking on our door that a raccoon walked in his room while he was on his computer(3rd floor again). We go up there again, we find nothing again, but notice a small area where the duct work leads from the unit to where it circles around the 3rd floor (we have a mansard roof so no real attic for duct work). Anyway we find nothing, but my husband puts a trap in his room.

Well this is what we woke up to!!! Don't even know what we are going to do, it looks like she's nursing too so don't know how many are up there. We have no idea how they could even get up there since the vents on the 1st and 2nd floor are separate. This is going to be a nightmare that costs a small fortune I'm afraid.

You have a HUGE problem!!

Well, broodiness is catching. My blue Orp hen, who hasn't been broody in two years, is now broody, in addition to Aimee. Dusty just tries to off her chicks when she's done with them so I don't think I'll be giving her any eggs this time. That makes 8 in about three or four months. Good grief.

I'd rather have 8 broodies than a raccoon invasion in my house, though!

Quote: So sorry they have moved in.....Irradication includes finding the kits/removal, cleaning the waste, treating for fleas and sanitizing. They make nests in insulation. They have 3 - 5 kits. If you can tell she is heavy nursed, then the babies may still be too young to leave the nest. Older kits will follow their mother's scent and you will see evidence of their movement. The trap for mom may not spring for the kits. You my need a smaller more responsive trap....rat traps work for small kits.

I too would much rather deal with them outside than to go thru this.

My gut instinct was right. Angus is dying. His color is bad, he's weaker and his crop isn't working. I think the crop stasis is a result of whatever the issue was before May 25. He's been in that pen before and ate grass and it never affected him this way, so it may have ever been the main issue. Darn it.

Me, too. I am so fond of him. He was so atypical of the D'Anver male personality and you know me-I never tolerate an aggressive rooster of the standard variety, so was pleased as punch when I got one like Angus. Honestly, I just feel like quitting and selling Aubrey. It makes Aubrey's regular D'Anver personality even more irritating, every time I think of the way Angus is with me. Aubrey is no Rusty, certainly, (what a nasty little snot he was!) but he's irritating enough.
