d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Nimrod looks like a blue quail roo,
Snowy- splash quail pullet,
Inigma -blue quail pullet with a single comb
PJ- blue quail roo,
Madison- Splash (or maybe just a real light blue) quail roo I think

They look just like some blue quail chicks I got last year from Ideal hatchery, even had a few single combs in the bunch.
jj
yep Donald, JJ got them right for you
and yes the last one is a splash roo.

Techncally doesnt look like any of them has true rose combs, but if they are hatchery stock, that's just what you get with them, slick what I call cushion combs and single combs in the mix. Color looks good on them. and they are just find to have some to play around with

Hey everyone. Been reading this thread since Feb. and I ordered some quail D'Anvers. They are four weeks old now and would like to get all the info I can on them. I also have one that is crossbeak who is full of spunk and seems to be eating find. I will use a deep dish bowl for her when they move to the coop. My question is ,how old does she have to be to file and trim the beak and how to do it. I do not breed chickens so I want to keep her. I was told to watch her weight and make sure she gets plenty of protein and calicum ,yougart, scramble eggs. Any info on this would be great. Here is her picture at 3 weeks. She is catching up with the others in size now, if it wasn't for the beak or colored legbands, hard to tell them apart.

yep that's true on both those parts. On the beak, if you want to save her, do it now, the longer you wait the more twisted it will be. Try to cut it back far enough that it's not hanging on the lower beak. keep an eye on it and try to trim and keep it off the bottom one as much as possible. Usually though, they just continue to curle up and cause feeding problems. Hope it makes it for you

Moved some young ones out of the brooder today.

Some of my BBB birds.

One of the blue quail project pullets

Aubrey, here are the two colors of pullets I got out of my buff columbian project. I want to use them to make bb reds which do you think would work the best.

Aubrey! Do you remember these?

This is what they look like now, the ligher one now just lighter than the other two. What are they? Could they just be the product of my Lavender Cuckoo Roo and Porcelain hen?

And the Chipmunk chick

He look like this now. He's molting so his tail look kind of funny and what a cherry thief, he ate most of the ripe one

What type of clipper do I use? Dog nail clippers? I read that someone used the pedipaws nail file. Will that work? So nervous about doing it the first time. Don't want to hurt her or make it bleed badly.

I hatched 9 chicks with that "Kentucky Leg Fungus".
