d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

And if you use the French translation, it would be "Dawn-VAIR". I spent lots of years in French, for all the good in the world it did me, but since I'm not in France, I just say "Danver" (as opposed to saying "Dee Anver"). As long as folks know what you're talking about, that's what matters.

People still don't know what I'm talking about unless the chicken is generic white or red. Or if there is a human name to the bird.

Well, I find that, too.

I hope I can even keep any of mine. Money outlay is growing with out-of-this-world stupid property tax raises, health insurance raise, need for dental work, glasses, etc, and no income increase. I may not be able to continue at all with any increase in my D'Anvers or anything else. It's looking like I may end up having the bantam coop, which is 8x8 in the actual coop part, being the only coop, in the future. Things are not looking very good for us retired folks, I'm afraid. I need to rehome these birds an no one, but no one, wants them, even with point-of-lay pullets. I've never seen that before.

I hear you. Luckily at 3 bucks a dozen, with great layers, and kind customers, I'm able to stay just barely at cost. I know it would be more economical to get rid of the chickens, but I don't think I would ever be able to get away from this hobby now that it has started. At least you are still able to keep a few, which is always better than none.

If only I were closer I would love to take your girls...

Wish I could sell eggs for that much, but even if I could, here in GA, it's illegal to sell off your property without a license and I don't want the gov't in my business any more than it already is. I sell only to a few neighbors who love my eggs and I sell to them cheap to help them with the economy. It gives me a few bucks here and there to buy a bag of feed is all, but they love to get really fresh eggs.

I wish you were closer, too. I put a flyer up on a Tractor Supply bulletin board today, though it's way back near the restrooms and not prominent in the store.

I think it is the time of year. We have a small animal swap at our TSC once a month, the last one I took two trios of nice barnvelders and a pair of splash marans. Nobody even ask about them. Last month I took two pair of light sussex and two trios of blue wheaten ameracans and a bunch of not so good d'Anvers and came home with 250 $. Earlier in the year you could sell anything.

Cyn- I am looking for a good porcelain roo wish I was closer.

I hear ya....I have d'Anvers, Cochanvers, Orpingtons, Orpington Crosses, Delaweggars and etc to rehome but no one wants cockerels (which most of mine are) and worse they do not even want pairs and trios. WTH is going on lately? Because naturally I have fallen in love with all of them so I cannot eat them. *sigh* And who needs 20 pet roosters? I would end up divorced against my will. hahahahaha

Oh speaking of divorce...my silkie has hatched 3 danver/duccle babies and one alien baby (silkie) (they are in the basement laundry room) and I have 3 danver/duccle eggs going into lockdown tonight (they are in the livingroom humming away) and I have an Orp hen with bumblefoot in a box in my daughter's bedroom and a porcelain duccle hen with a eye injury in a doggie crate beside the Orp in a box...thank goodness my daughter is such a good nursemaid because the Orp escaped the box this morning and was wandering around her room nosing into everything and knocking stuff down....no gifts were left just chaos. hahahahaha

I need a sleep aid...I am thinking a glass of warm Brandy and a hot bath.....have a great night all.

I thought I had too many chickens in the house! Right now I have a prolapsed d'Anver (thanks for your help Spekledhen), a RIR with most of her back feathers pecked out, a hen with 3 babies, another with one, 5 babies that have been raising themselves for the last month since their mama died, one hen in recovery from being bald, and one mean as s**** d'Uccle that I can't bring myself to get rid of because my favorite hen has a huge crush on him! Only one is permanently stationed in our house right now though. Arghhhhhh, it's driving me crazy!
