d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Look what I found this evening. Two are out so far.

Plugged the bator back in so the wife could hatch some Marans and welsummers for her layer flock. Today I gathered up a couple dozen project eggs just to "test fertility".

Tried to get pics of this one mille fleur chick, the one that is the most clean buff on the back and shoulders, one I knew I could easily ID from the others again, but all front shots were blurry (stupid camera won't focus anymore). This chick is over 4 weeks old now. So, what do you think? Too early to call? I know, need better front comb shots, but can't afford a better camera. It seems to go to the wrong setting on automatic focus half the time, show shutter speed, etc.

JJ, I finally got a good look at all of their combs-the skittish little critters were picking at a piece of tomato I put in front of the gate. Going solely on the comb shape, and I have noticed that in the past but forgot to check for it (thanks for the reminder), I have one cockerel and four pullets- about time my luck reversed on that, huh? The cockerel's rounded-back comb does also have some noticeable pink in it and the rest do not. So, that would seem to cement my findings.

One pullet is the heating pad chick "Heather" (silly chicken name, good grief, LOL) and one is the chick infested with a case of Kentucky Leg Fungus. Little Heather belongs to Penny and the other four belong to Aimee.

LOL That leg fungus is tough because it is from Kentucky! I left leg fungus spores all around your place before I left in April. hehehehehe My place is loaded with it! I just had 7 hatch with the leg fungus. Will add pics later.

Cyn- good deal! Just a warning , the ones with the rounded combs are always roosters. Every little bit the pointy combs will turn out male.

LH- I think it may be illegal to transport such a disease across state lines.

Could be one of those is a sneaky little cuss-I do see the barest hint of pinkish tinge on one of the pointy back combed kids after checking again, but the others are most definitely pullets, IMO. I have either 3 or 4 pullets out of 5 chicks, which is a darn sight better than my previous luck!

Now, if someone would only take my extra birds. Sigh.

Thats still good!!

Is there anyone from Oklahoma on here? I am looking to get restarted in D'anvers again. I had them many years ago. I just don't see them much anymore, maybe I am in the wrong area. I don't care what color, but I am really wanting whites for sure. I like them all though so am not picky about color.
