LOL, One of my Brahma's is almost totally blind. She will stand 2 feet away and try pecking you, poor girl, even if you are clearly not going to step on her she cowers like your foot is right on top of her.

LOL no worries...I got it. :)

Okay d'Anver genetics experts...here's one for ya...neither Cynthia nor I can figure this one out.

MF d'Anver Rufus and one of his 4 girls (2 Porcelain, 1 Lavender and one black split d'Uccle) produced a chick colored and marked in a manner I cannot explain. The black split girl is the offspring of a MF split over a MF split hen. I do not question that girl's genetics whatsoever as I acquired the birds from wegotchickens and they came from her champion MF roo over a lavender hen.

The chick hatched creamy yellow and began drying to yellow and when fully dried...white with dark charcoal/black markings. There is no doubt the egg came from Rufus' pen...it was marked in my handwritting with the pen and date. I mark them in the coop as collected.

Here is a short video of Rufus and his girls...

Here is the chick in question....how on earth did I get this color and what color is it ????? LOL I am now breeding oddities as opposed to acquiring them or turning normal chickens into them. hahahahaha

At about 28 hours old.....

* Yes it is in my daughter's jacket sleeve. LOL

A tad over 2 days old....

I am stumped on this one.....what do I have here and how did I get it?

Oh and yes it has Kentucky Leg Fungus :)

cet, that kinda looks like a mille pattern, just a very very wash out one. any chance a silver gene could be in there? wondering if it will end up silver mille??? Thinking that or columbian. when get into mixes, some times you just get odd balls from time to time

Hmm, well the silver gene couldn't have come from Rufus, since you came from your stock, Aubrey, right? Guess Ladyhawk would have to ask Lori (wegotchickens) about that as far as the D'Uccles go.

This one will be VERY interesting to watch grow out! Of course, it ended up at her place...where all oddballs go to live.

Thank you Aubrey. The only colors involved here are MF, Lavender and Porcelain. Now I know of no silver anywhere and there is only one possible place...the lav duccle hens Wegotchickens bred with her MF ... but I did not know lavender had or could have silver unleashed crossbred. I will pose this to Lori and see what she says or knows.

I am still going back through my breeding records from last year when the lav and split girl hatched. A mystery or just normal luck here at the Menagerie'?

My babies are getting big and the two escape artists have been moved to another pen with a 9 foot screened wall. Caught 5 of them tonight resting on the top of that wire wall...Guess I will finish putting chicken wire on that 5 x 1 foot section. Looks like I need to build a higher roost bar for the high flyers.

Yay, my girl Abigail is laying everyday now, and ha a BF. Unfortunately it's a Cam pine and not my d'anver too, but still good for her.

He's the one for sale in my siggy, so, you know, he's gentle enough for me to let him hang out with the little girls,to anyone that is interested. Please? Somebody take him!!!!!

Well I am baffled...no silver gene can be tracked for this little guy so...time will tell what s/he looks like and I will keep researching this.

I sold an Orp pullet tonight and GAVE HIM to cockerels to go with her....he has 2 other hens at home and I enlightened him to the benefits of roosters and when he saw my beautiful Lancelot he said "I want one of those" and voile' there was one waiting for him in the pen. And I am putting 16 eggs in the bator for them tonight.

A very nice woman and her hubby are coming tomorrow to get two pullets and a little boy to take home....she should be joining BYC tonight or tomorrow.

So...anyone need two d'anver cockerels...MFs? huh do you? Anyone?

Omigosh, Kathryn, I just had to tell a woman who called about Aubrey and Mina yesterday from my ad at the co-op about the flying capabilities of this breed. When she asked how high they could fly, I told her "as high as they need to". She does come to BYC sometimes (Hi, Melanie, if you read this!! Forgot to ask your screen name so PM me!).

The grow out coop where Aimee and Carly are raising their babies has a front storage area, then a divider wall that is about 8 ft tall, but doesn't quite go to the top (ceiling is over 9 ft). I have found Aimee and one of the 4 week old chicks up on the 8 ft section when Aimee thought she should be let out but I hadn't come to get her out yet. If they had flown just a foot higher, they'd have been over into the storage area. They can go as high as they want and that's the truth.

By the way, those 5 chicks are 5 weeks old today and I still see only one cockerel. Yea for me! Of course, I haven't gone out to see them today yet so I may see a second one suddenly reveal himself, but so far, just one.

Adding a few pics, but darn it, they will NOT hold still without a wrangler to make them do it!
