d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

yep pretty sure I got a mild concussion out of it, aint felt right in the head since!! bad head ache still.

good looking chicks though. I'm about like you, a bit early, but your guess looks about right to me too. First one I'm sure like you, is a boy.
Think the last 2 you mentioned are a gilr and the dark one a boy. I reserve the right to change my mind in a couple weeks when the new pics come out though haha

I second the motion good looking chicks.

I too believe the parents have the most influence on the opposite sexed chicks. And agree with everything Aubrey said. But I have some inside info about those birds (sent her some eggs last year). The quail are most likely brother and sister as are the blue quail. That is why I suggested to use the blue quail roo with the quail hens. In the end the best you can do is to make an improvement on what you started with, as long as you are doing that it can't be all wrong. I agree about the silvers also. The blue silver pullet is out of some splash quail hatchery birds and looks a little big and just off type , I had other that looked like that but I had alot to choose from when I kept mine. The silver cockerel only has one silver gene and looks like a bladed comb in the back ( had some of those too) Can't really tell from the picture but other than that he should be pretty good. They will throw blue quail, silver quail, blue silver quail, quail and don't be surprised if lavender quail pop up.

Aubrey, this chicken pen building is dangerous work. I was off today working on mine. It's 4 x 12 with 3 4 x4 pens on the bottom and 3 4 x4 pens on top. Not near big enough but trying to build something with materials that I have here, with Christmas and all didn't want to spend a lot. well I had to go at noon to get a crown put back on and to get some more materials (always happens to me). Came back and got to work. I was in the back of it, the low side, putting blocking between the rafters. Dropped my hammer, bent over to get it when I stood up, the end of a rafter hit me right on that button on my ball cap. Down I went seeing stars and thinking I was going to pee my pants. The only good thing, no witnesses.

Thanks for all the advice. Will work on things and try to get maybe some new blood this spring. Excited to do it!

, cute chicks. I'm pretty good at guessing and would agree with the experts on the sexes. First chicks comb base looks pretty wide, were as the other is narrow. As everyone said. ;-)

You guys need helmets! :-o

ah that makes sence. Figured you may have sent some of them seeing that blue silver in there. Yep the comb looked like a cross between a slick flat comb and a good one, kinda half way inbetween

haha yep that's the same thing it hit on me, that cap button, felt like it drove it in my head an inch! Still sore as can be. Didnt even know it til this morning when I was getting ready for work, the inside was all blood stained from where it got me. but I'M TUFF!! haha, not really, it knocked the crap out of me! Was still a little loopy today at work. Bet I'll be more careful. Got the frame and wire up Sunday though, ordered the metal for the roof today. Gone try to get 1 done now cause it's a must at this point with all the chicks ( I'm out of brooder) Then after Christmas, I'll work on the other 2. Give my ol brain time to recoop and the wallet.

haha, yep been thinking hard on it. Bad thing is I'm a construction worker ( install floors) so I have several hard hats in my work truck. I just left it and the tool trailer at the shop. course I usually have an extra set of hands helping me too on the over head stuff. Had been sick the end of the week, and was going stir crazy inside. Figured I'd get out Sunday and catch up... wish I'd stayed on the couch now

I have 43 getting pretty big in a 4x8 brooder. Have to clean it every two days. I Got to get this pen finished.

same here. They sure can trash one pretty quick, especially once they get a little size to 'em. That's my goal with these too. To have somewhere to put big chicks, ones that are still too small for a large open grow out pen but well past brooder size.

You two are worrying me now. Don't want to lose either of my two favorite BYC guys so please, please be careful! Bumps on the head can be more than we realize-remember Natasha Richardson, Liam Neeson's wife? Bumped her head skiing, just had a mild headache and died a couple of days later from undetected brain swelling. Happened to someone else just after that, but can't recall who it was. I'm going into stern mama mode here, I know, but you two are my fellas, so take care of yourselves, okay? There's enough potential brain damage here with Carly thunking Aimee's chicks on the head and making them scream on a daily basis, LOL! They're finally learning to avoid Aunt Carly, I think. You guys need to hone your ducking skills!
