d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

That I actually understand. So visually you cant really see a difference.
no not in a single copied dominate white and a full douple copied. Least I havent seen one yet. You just have to keep up with your breeding records and know what you put in them. Good thing is they either have it or they dont. Not like recessive genes where a single copy isnt expressed visually.

I could be very wrong, so take my reply with a grain of salt and wait for someone with much more experience than I have. I have only just started in lavenders myself, but unlike you I have no lavender roosters. I am using black roosters on lavender hens. The sex flip may alter the color outcome, but Im not sure. We'll both be learning from your question I hope! :)

Anyways.. in my case, I was told that if I use my black rooster over my lavender hens, the chicks will all be black but would carry the lavender gene. Meaning I can cross those chicks to themselves (or other carriers) and get about a quarter which are lavender color, several non lavender but lavender carriers, and the rest blacks with no lavender gene.

This is, however, what I was told on a LangshanX color program. Not a d'anver program. I havent hatched my F1's from the above scenario yet, still about a week to go, so as of now I'm just waiting to see what comes.
that's pretty much it. Lavnder is one of the recessive genes I was just mentioning in the last post. It must have 2 copies to be seen in the bird. Sex doesnt matter on the breeding works the same either way

lavender to black = all black split for lavender. Split means it got a copy, but that's not good enough for it to be seen in a recessive colored bird. Both parents must contribute a copy to the chick.

Now that you have your splits, it's best to breed back to the lavender parent if you ca. Reason being. That bird will always contribute a copy of lavender. Split birds will only contribute a copy to half their chicks. It's an odds game more less.

either way you can get more lavender, even if you breed the chicks together. But by using the lavender parent, you have 3 lavender genes to work with, where with the split chicks you'll only have 2 to work with.
without getting in a long ratios game here, you just have a lot better chance with split chicks if you breed them to the lavender parent

Well, Spike and Sam, who are 9 weeks old, are both crowing to beat the band. Daddy Aubrey chastised Sam for it today so they'd better watch themselves around dear old dad, LOL.

Spike and Leah have paired off and Sam and Maura (Maura is the porcelain) have paired off, it seems. Funny thing is, that is the way they hatched, Spike and Leah with Molly and Sam and Maura with Aimee for the first two weeks, till Molly died unexpectedly and Aimee adopted Spike and Leah.

Snapped a few pics of the kids today for you. The only one that isn't Mina's is the feather legged moose of a pullet, of course.

Spike is the cockerel in the 4th pic with the most color and knobbiest comb. Sam is the one in the 5th pic who has very few white spots so far and a slightly smoother comb. They're all 9 weeks old.

Looks good Cyn. So my wyandotte hen went spastic with me care for her and the chicks, I had to boot her back to the barn, she started that scratching and sent the chicks flying. Last itme she broody for me, she had a clutch of keets and when it went flying it landed in th ewater adn instantly was gone. So I am not taking a chance. So I have put my 3 older babies in with the 3 newbies and all are getting along welll, It sure helped the chicks calm down after taking mom away.

Will try to get picks this weekend. My strange one from th efirst group is a millie as JJ sadi, but it has a yellow head and the others have the red head. I am sure it will change in time. the colors are similar, but that yellow head has the darkest feathers and more black in them. the other 2 are solid red right now, with a touch of black. The 3 new chicks are millies, but somewhat different, so cant wait to see them change.
