My D'Anvers lay a decent amount of eggs when they aren't being broody!
Well, my fertility test isn't going so well for my Delaware rooster. Of the dozen eggs I set from several different hens in his flock, most in the bator, four under the two broody d'Anvers, only TWO are definitely developing, from the same EE hen (coincidentally, Isaac's favorite, the head hen, June).
So, my broodies were sitting on duds. I left an egg each underneath them until I can figure what I want to do. June's green eggs are HUGE so I don't know if a D'Anver can sit on even one of those. I don't know if it's Isaac's age, four years old now, or if he's just decided he's tired of the BR hens I'm loading my main flock with, ones he's shown a definite dislike for, even though he
does mate them from time to time-I can tell from the feather wear on at least one of them. Decisions, decisions....guess I could get some sexed pullet chicks from the feed store near hatch day for Aimee and Mina to raise, if they have any in the current shipment at the time that I'd even want. That sweet old lady in KY wants desperately to have another son of Ike after losing her beloved Dexter, but unless one of the Delawegger chicks is a cockerel, I won't be able to do that for her. Sigh.
