bout day light they start. No I've never been able to reliably feather sex chicks on them, the combs are so small too on them, that it's hard to tell on most til the color differences in them start to show, usually by 5 weeks or so, you can some what sex them, some sooner, some later.

Here is my new girl...no name as of yet! Thanks Shay for this pretty one!

Devastated and heartbroken do not even begin to describe how sad I have been the past few days without my bbr pullet. She went missing an hour before sunset two nights ago and hasn't been seen since. She always replies when I call out to her no matter where she is and I've looked all over. She's gone... really really gone. I assume it was hawk, owl or coyote. She was so special. I miss her terribly. You will see pictures I posted of her on page 41. I've been such a mess lately, crying my eyes out over her. I've lost chickens before but none so close to me as she was.

Alex, I'm so sorry! That's just awful. I hope that by some miracle she does show up. It's happened before that they show up after being missing for days and I hope she comes back. It's so hard losing these precious little hens, I know. She's so adorable-I remember the pics of her sunbathing.

Aubrey, if a March 14 ship date is good for you, let's make that the definite ship date. If you'd PM me your address, I'll get payment to you by the end of this month. I'm excited! I know I can't afford to get as many eggs from your porcelains as I'd like, but I'm going to get some. I've waited for months, but at least it won't be long now.

My DH has expanded the size coop we're going to build so they'll be rattling around in tons of space till I can get them to maturity and hatch some from my very own porcelain D'anvers. Was going to be 4x6. Now, it's an 8 x 12 shed with 5 ft of storage/brooder room so they'll have about 8 x 7 for the actual coop part. Wow, how many can I put in that much space?

I sure hate to hear all that, like Cynthia said, I hope she shows up for you, fingers crosses. I know she had the best mama she could have gotten though!

Cynthia,
Just put you down for the 14th, getting about 4 a week off them right now, so they should be going good by then, that would be the only hold up for me on that date, if the weather turns nasty again and shuts them down.
This time of year, they all start trying, we'll have a week of 70 and it gets them laying, then it'll rain and we'll be in the 20's again.
Will shoot my address to you too.

Hope to finsih my next 20 breeding pens this weekend. I promise everyone, once I'm done, I'll get new pics of all the birds up again. Breeding is hear so the new pens has just taken priority .

Sorry to hear that but maybe theres a chance shes off setting somewhere ???? I was pretty upset when my favorite and most tamed turkey hen went missing for a few days and then she was back in the yard and I followed her back to the woods and found a nest she made and had been setting on.
