d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

The d'Anvers. Are. Unstoppable!

They will make nests atop your head!

Notice the killer ear muffs on Jacques, the cockerel to the left? He is developing a VERY nice beard, at only 6.5 weeks! The cockerel on my honey's head, laying down comfortably chillaxin', is Midas. Aubrey, all of these chicks just hang limply in the hand when held, are easy to handle, super tame, but are bold, sassy, busy.
Very effective hunters and active foragers in our pseudo "free-range" situation. But again, super tame & friendly!

PS-- "Super tame" means they approach asking to be picked up, and planting marigolds with them in the yard is impossible! They try to "help!"

got to be all the time yall spend with them, it's very apparent they ended up with some loving parents

Hi, all. Had an 8 day visit with my good pal, Cetawin. She left yesterday and I couldn't pawn off the 8 D'Anver chicks on her, hehe. Seriously, though, they are all with various broody mamas and aren't ready to leave. They are all from Aimee with either Spike or Aubrey. Interestingly enough, out of the 8, only 3 have the Kentucky Leg Fungus and I have the first couple of cockerels she has ever produced, too. Carly and Mina are raising four D'Anvers and one DelaRock pullet between them. Aimee is raising 2 D'Anvers, not sure of sex yet since they are only 3 weeks old this weekend, and one DelaRock male. It's been raining daily for a month, on and off, so due to the never quite dry conditions, I had to treat the littlest guys for cocci for the first time in years. Never have had to really do that with chicks raised with a broody, but the wet conditions were just ripe for it. I'm SICK of rain!

All those chicks will be rehomed eventually except for the DelaRocks. Spike is in heaven playing daddy to the babies, so he won't know what to do with himself when they're not here. Such a great rooster, that one. My Aubrey is a wonderful dad as well, but Spike is just beside himself with joy over all the chicks.

On a personal note, I'm back in my house. Just got most of my household goods delivered yesterday and am unpacking about a hundred boxes. Still don't have some of my electronics back, though I'm typing on my new computer. Hard to deal with Windows 8, but I'll manage. At least I have it and I love the house the way it is, but sure will be happy when all these boxes are gone and life is back to normal. Insurance has paid for most of the stuff we lost, though there are a few things outstanding and will be for a bit.

good to hear... I know that was a bad deal there

SpeckledHen, I am glad that you are back in your house now. I'm wishing you and your family good things as you move forward. Sounds like your Mina, Carly and Aimee are super Mamas! Thanks again for putting up their pictures... it's what gave me the nudge to bring d'Anvers into my life. Thank you!

Aubrey, Some of my d'Anvers must be related to SpeckledHen's "Pocket Penny," because I've gotta check my hands before I come indoors-- might be a d'Anver or two in 'em that I've forgotten I was carrying!

I've got several that insist on being picked up! God forbid my hands are already full of d'Anvers... they fly up to ride on my shoulders and head! And they're mostly all cockerels, too!

They're 7 weeks, and so far, not a mean one in the bunch. All sweet! Okay one cranky one, but he is a dear, too. ;)

Hahaz My little Cuckoo Roo just spanked my Griwawa for getting to close to his flock I have two rooster One darker Cuckoo and larger One lighter Cuckoo and more dominant slighter built I can only keep one the hens are dark Cuckoo and black with a white throat Which would be better

Do mille fleur roosters usually have caramel-colored beards, or do some have black beards? A few of the cockerels have black fringes coming in. Just curious!
