Now, JJ, you know you're loved when you get a shipment of spores twice.

Yeah, the ones that peck your hands are the ones that chill out when their hormones kick in. Those are the ones I mentioned here that are not handled much as chicks, mostly the broody raised ones. Now, little Jenny who had the terrible case of cocci, and her slightly larger sister we just call Sissy because we really didn't name her, are both super sweet and friendly, probably because of all the handling they got. They were broody- raised by Aimee, but had to come in the house for emergency coccidiosis treatment in our very wet summertime. If they're handled, they are never skittish, but in the end, it's a rare D'Anver pullet that stays skittish even if she starts out that way. It's just in their nature to be pocket pets.

The only aggression my hens show is toward the young silkie pair in the coop. I think they are jealous of Poes beauty. Crow the black will chase her all ovet relentlessly. The little Roo and my 9 yr old son have a mutual hate of one another. They are tough little birds though. They will sleep on their swing unless I make them go in the coop and the Alaskan snow has not stopped them from wandering the yard. No eggs in the winter though :(

Well, I have at least two birds laying, maybe three. Maura, my porcelain, is laying and someone is laying a pointier egg, probably one of the pullets. It looks like Penny's egg, but she hasn't laid or shown interest in a nest in over a year now. So, I have 9 eggs collected for hatching in a week! Amazing, especially this time of year. They are already spoken for, not for me to hatch.

Haven't had chicks around here in awhile. The youngest here are 16 weeks old. I really, really didn't want anymore chicks this year. I didn't hatch this year at all, no need to with all the broodies I had. I hope no one gets it into her head to sit this spring. Don't need any, not until the old ladies start going to that Great Roost in the Sky and they are not giving up yet. My 7 year old RIR/Buff Orp hen, Meg, started laying again this week. She isn't the only 7 year old I have currently laying, either, but they don't lay consistently at that age, of course. Bet they'll be laying up until the week they die. Tough old hens, this bunch.

We just have 11 LF Brahma's that hatched last night, they are destined for egg laying duty. The brooders are full of half grown( I find a few eggs in them) project d'anvers and Watermaals that I can't decide which ones to keep yet.

I will actually be turning off the last of 8 incubators Saturday!! This will be the first off time for them in over 24 months. Actually kinda ready for a rest myself. Of course by February they'll all be wide open again

Oooh, LF Brahmas?? What color variety? My Buff Brahma is 7 years old. I'd love more some day. Good old salt 'o the earth gals.
