d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

With the eggs you're getting from me on Monday, K, you could get some milles, but they'll all be split for porcelain since my males are either full porcelain or 1/2 or 3/4 porcelain, though visual milles. The pullets are all visual milles, but were sired by either the porcelain or the 3/4 porcelain male. You may get mostly porcelain chicks, wouldn't surprise me a bit, really, since a good portion of the eggs probably were laid by my porcelain hen under one of those males. The porcelain hen, Maura's own parents are my porcelain rooster and my 1/2 porcelain hen, Mina. So, Maura is actually 1/4 mille, but visually porcelain. Now, are you confused enough, lol? I'll be anxious to see what actually hatches from these since, other than Maura, I'm not sure which two hens/pullets contributed the eggs. Never caught anyone on the nest other than Maura.

Thanks I can't wait. I also couldn't remember what the split they were. I have two Silkies laying I thought I would put those eggs in the incubator too. They would most likely be crossed with my Porcelain d'Uccle I have some very nice Silkie roos, but I don't think they are old enough yet.

Just wanted to clear up a bit. On splits, they are either split ( carry one copy of the gene) or they are the full on color ( one with 2 copies of the gene)
So, in the case of say mille fleur and porcelain you get this
Milles with no lavender gene
Milles split to lavender ( carry 1 gene)
Or porcelain ( which carries 2 lavender genes)
There's not really a percentage deal to them. They are either split or they aren't. Not split is the base color , or they visually show the recessive gene

They are the same bird genetically one just has lavender added.
Splits will look just like the base color, in this case mille. So aside from knowing the parents its impossible to know if none is split by looks alone. In other words mille to porcelain will be 100% split lavender milles. Or a split to a porcelain will make porcelain or split milles. Aside from those two combos, the others could carry lavender or they might not. Breeding would be the only way to knows

And I got a 13th egg today so far! Amazing. I still have no idea who besides Maura is laying.

Correction: I have 17 eggs now, 3 just today so far! I guess all the pullets are coming into lay, but the eggs are decent size for D'Anver pullet eggs.
