d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Oh, I didn't enlarge the photo so she looked goldish. She's beautiful!

ETA: I think I can get up a dozen D'Anver eggs soon. K Epp took her 17 eggs and over the last two days, I've gotten 6 more of them. Today, got 4 of those, one obviously a pullet's first egg, streaked with blood.

If all these 6 pullets are coming into lay and one of the older hens starts back in addition to Maura, I should be able to collect enough for someone to hatch, if they want to take a chance on some chicks with feather stubs showing up in the clutch. Out of the last 8 chicks, only 3 had stubs and I'm pretty sure they were all from the same hen who usually throws feather legged/stubbed chicks. So, they are not a given and you should get some good D'Anvers out of them, I'd think. These may be pullet eggs, but they are NOT tiny eggs-they are as large as the full size D'Anver eggs. I've had only one pullet laying a pullet -sized egg.

The catch is that I'm not shipping eggs right now. They are pick up only, sorry. If no one wants them, they are still edible, right, so will make up for some of the LF hens who are not laying. Just takes two or three to make one LF.

I have the temp on the incubator where I want it so they are going in tonight. The D'anver eggs are just as big as my Silkie eggs. Pictured is D'Anver on left, Silkie on top and LF EE who just started laying today.

I know, they're really good size, aren't they? My only older hen who lays a pretty small egg is Carly, but then, Carly is a teensy lady herself. The pullets' eggs are bigger than Carly's, for sure! I guess it helps that they waited until they were 29-30 weeks old to lay so their bodies were truly ready for it. Good luck, Karen!

I will keep you updated. 17 D'anver, 5 Silkie, and the 1 1st time EE.

Thanks! So far, in this new collection, I have 10 eggs, 4 just today, and the day is young. The feather legged pullet laid her first egg today-I watched her do it and marked it as hers. It's not a given that she will produce chicks with feathers on the legs, of course, though if the male with the stubs sires them, there is a good chance of it. I really, really hope that Spike or Aubrey is the sire of most of the chicks, but I've noticed that Aubrey doesn't breed the hens as much as he used to do, even though he's not even 3 years old yet.

***I see that one of the layers is my year and a half old hen, Mina, who is 1/2 porcelain and 1/2 Mille Fleur, or at least, she was one of the layers today.

Day 4 just candled and I have clear veins in 12. One of which is the small pullet egg. 1 of Maura's is growing for sure. 2 of the Silkie Pullets are growing and surprisingly the EE 1st egg is too. I left them all cooking. I wont pull any until I'm certain they are duds.

Karen, you have positive veining or the 12 are clears? I wasn't quite sure with the way you worded that, lol. I've had a long, long day and just got home, so maybe I'm just a tad brain dead.
