d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Hey, Aubrey, I hear you met my new friend, John, and was able to get him some Phoenix chicks and a few white Phoenix eggs. I'm jealous he got to meet you in person!

I think the porcelain chick that hatched under Aimee is a pullet. Comb is quite narrow at the back. Will have to get pics when the weather is better and they can go outside again.

At hatch I determined it to be female as it had a small round spot and slate legs. I am now wondering about that. Could it be a singled barred male

The pattern looks like my dun cuckoo hen's, but with that red comb I think that is a rooster.

I love my cuckoo girl!
well my eggs are in the incubator and I am counting down the days... 20 left at 7pm tonight... yay
I think our hatch date on BBBs eggs are the same! What colors did you get?

yep, he spoke well of you for sure Cynthia

Aww, how nice! He sure wants to have some quality bantam stock so of course, I immediately thought of you. I'm glad he just by chance mentioned the Phoenix when he was here the first time so I could send him your way.

I still don't have photos of the porcelain chick. Our weather is not cooperating. Tomorrow, it's supposed to be warmer, BUT with 30 mph winds and gusts up to 40 mph. That's already started. It's the windiest winter I can recall.

Hello,
I have a couple of questions about this breed, I have one quail hen and we love her spunky little personality! Are they generally curious and fearless? I have heard that the roosters can be pretty aggressive, what are your experiences? I have lot's of D'uccles and love those little guys too, are they fairly similar in personality? Lastly, I am in Wisconsin, are there any breeders in my area? Thanks for any help!

The hens are super sweet. Males run the gamut, though most of them are at least standoffish and at most a little raging pitbull. I had a trio of d'Uccles and my male was aggressive. Pullets were flighty. Those were hatchery stock, though, so it's a gamble when you don't start with good stock in any breed. My Penny wants to be carried around 24/7 which is why she is called Pocket Penny.

Hello
Does anybody know what colour chick a black d'anver roo and white d'anver hen makes
Thanks

I'm no good when you start talking about white, so I'm sure someone in the know will come along soon.

Got some pics of the porcelain chick that Aimee is raising today outside. It's still really young, only two weeks old on Tuesday (hatched on Day 18, little early bird), but so far, the comb looks more girly to me. What do you folks think? Click to make the pictures larger.
Those huge chicks are two New Hampshires and two Buff Orps, supposedly sexed pullets, but I think someone goofed. The tail-less Buff is probably a cockerel, dang it. Betsy is a Bubba.

The white in d'anvers is recessive white, which will cover any color hiding under the white. But to answer your question the chicks will most likely be black each carrying a copy of recessive white. It takes two copies of recessive white to make a white bird.
