d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Hey everyone! I am new to d'anvers, so I was wondering if you find the roos to be mean towards people. Everytime im near one at shows or trades, they strut around and act like they are going to attack me. Do the hens and roos like being handled a lot?
Thanks
My experience with my d'Anvers is the roos that we have hand-raised are very sweet and will follow you around like puppies, but are not much on being handled during the day. They are more inclined to cooperate with handling when they start roosting in the evening. Additionally, all our hand-raised chicks (d'Uccle and d'Anvers) are trained to step up on our hand. The roos that we haven't hand raised/were raised by their mama hens are more territorial and will sneak up behind us and try to attack, but shooing them off is pretty trivial. One even likes to be picked up after he attacks--just a plea for attention maybe? The hens are all incredibly sweet, love to be held and constantly have to be in the middle of whatever we are doing! Trying to weed with them "helping" is hilarious! Last year we were tilling some new garden beds and every time we stopped the tiller the little hens would dive under the tines to see if any bugs were under there. We would have to shoo them all out before we could start up the tiller again. Took us twice as long to finish the job with all our chicken "helpers."

Generally, the males have that Little Man Syndrome. The super friendly ones are very rare from my limited experience. They really do vary a lot from indifferent to you to trying to sneak up and attack to attacking every chance they get whether you're looking or not. The hens are completely opposite to the males, sweet and cuddly, overall.

Thanks for your replies! I love raising babies so maybe ill try that, or just get younger cockerels, rather than hatching my own. When I do get some ill probably get more hens anyways to make trios or quads.

Mine were hand raised. It didn't matter. I started with four males and had four different personalities. One was a total pitbull that I rehomed to someone who wanted to free range him, the original Rusty. None were like Spike, my friendly one, who funny enough, was raised by a broody and was not handled much as a chick.

I'm curious to know if the original Rusty calmed down any after free ranging. Were you ever in contact with the lady who took him?

No, I never heard and I honestly can't remember who she was, either. A friend of hers picked him up for her when she was getting birds or eggs for herself. I'll look back through my messages and see if I still have one in regard to that transaction.

ETA: I looked back at the ad and my messages and can't find who took Rusty. Here he is, in his dark mahogany glory:

Well Rusty #2 is a character for sure. He struts around in all his bad self glory. I think he has the atyito he can attack any time he just chooses not to. After dealing with that turkey who weighed in at 55lbs my little Hitler is nothing. Although my quail roo looks like he marches around to. I refer to him as Stalin.

I have 3 D'anver in lockdown now due to hatch Saturday. Keep your fingers crossed.

So far 10 have hatched. 6 dun mottled, 2 porcelain, 1 solid dun and 1 Mille Fluer. Only one more MF egg has pipped on day 21, so that might be it for this hatch. The chicks are SO cute! Keeping my fingers crossed for porcelain pullets for my lone porcelain rooster.

Aubrey . . what colors can I expect out of the DM eggs? A couple of chicks look blue and some almost black.

Here are some of the DM and Solid dun chicks.
