d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

The seven little D'Anvers are 5 and 4 weeks old now. I think I have a Mille pair, a Porcelain pair and a Porcelain trio. Could be wrong and a couple more weeks should tell for certain. Maura's were completely stolen from her and they are being mothered by Penny, Carly, Mina and Aimee. No one bothers them at all, of course, and the two roosters are super great dads, especially Spike, who loves chicks.

Are you going to have any for sale?

I know it has probably been discussed here before, but can some either explain to me or point me in the right direction....

1.) how do you breed for silver quail? what is the cross used?
2.) once established, how does silver quail breed? does is breed true or maybe be similar to bbs or self blue?

Thanks,
Preston

I might, but first they have to grow a bit so I can be sure what I have and I offered them to the nice couple who took Ty because they love them and thought they might want eggs. With almost none laying, I knew they'd have a better chance of chicks than hatching eggs. But, they may not want all of them, depending on the sex ratios. And, of course, the mothers are still raising them. In a couple of weeks, I ought to be closer to being able to tell you what's what. Could be I could at least get you a porcelain pair if you want them, but can't promise anything yet.

Cynthia that would be great and exactly what I would like. If they are just wanting eggs. I have some EE pullets that haven't been spoken for. My EE lay as well or better than the Leghorn and Australorp.

They came to pick up Ty and the black pullet to go with him and fell in love with the D'Anvers. Lisa was talking about getting hatching eggs from them at some point, but mine go broody so much, I told her she'd do better getting chicks if she wanted these. So, let's see how good my guesses are on their sex and we'll go from there after I speak with her about what I have.

One of the porcelains is a bit smaller than the others, shorter body than I think she ought to have, so her wings look huge on her. Hopefully, she will be okay since she's already 4 weeks old, rather past the failure to thrive point, but you never know when you have one lagging behind the others. Could be she's just a little girl.

How big are d' anver eggs compared LF chicken eggs?

My hens' eggs vary, really. My smallest hen lays the largest egg of the D'anvers. The head hen, also a small hen, lays a very tiny egg, hardly larger than a robin's egg, but they manage to hatch out chicks from them. Of those extra small ones, it would take at least 3 to make one large LF egg, but the larger ones might only take two, though some of the yolks on the larger D'Anver eggs are surprisingly big.

if you happen to have a picture that would be wonderful. Because I am trying to decide weather to get RC light brown leghorn bantams or buff Colombian d'anvers. Any recommendations?
