d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Interesting behavior from Aimee and Mina, both of whom are now clucking, but neither of whom have sat on eggs during the day. At night, they are both sitting in nests surrounded by Maura's three chicks, who are 3 weeks old. Maura has been shunned by Carly and Penny, whose four chicks are a week older than hers, so she can't get near them to mother them much during the day and not at all at night. Maura roosts with the other adults at night while her mother, Mina, and Aunt Aimee keep her chicks warm. It's crazy to see two hens who really aren't broody adopt three 3 week old chicks. Penny and Carly will allow Mina to mother their chicks as well and sit with them, but they refuse to allow Maura to get close. Nutty as heck. Mina is mille and Maura is porcelain so maybe they are tiny bigots, LOL. Maura's babies have been adopted by the flock, generally, so they go to whomever is available if they need some comfort.
I have a porcelain in the 3 eggs my girls hatched. I'm not Sir if its a girl or boy yet , but would be interested in getting it a mate if you are going to sale any of yours.

Evedintly my Seabright was slipping in their coop and nest box. I'll get pictures. I have gold laced and silver laced chicks. The silver even looks like a LF. I'm 99% sure there was only bantam eggs in their nest.

Karen, I think they're spoken for, but in the case there are too many males, I might be able to get you one of those if you need one. I am not sure of sex on these yet, but I do think I have one Mille and one porcelain cockerel and one mille pullet out of the seven so far. Need more time to be sure what I have. The porcelains are harder for me to call, generally. Could have three porcelain males for all I know. I thought the last porcelain pullet was a cockerel for awhile, but turned out to be a pullet instead. There are two folks in line for them, but if they decide not to take them, I'll let you know what I have for you to pick from.

You're welcome.

The first person in line hasn't replied to my PM I sent awhile back. The second nice person has to build a coop and not sure if she'll want them all, depending on the male/female ratio, though with these, it's easier to keep multiple males than with other breeds. I started with four males and three females. It let me pick which males I preferred to keep after they grew up. The original Rusty was the meanest one I ever had so he got to go be a free ranging pitbull somewhere else, LOL.

I got as close as the girls would let me this morning and I see some pick on its comb already. I will prepare for battle and try to get some pictures later.

The pullet I got from you in Feb is living in the bantam coop. The cockerel I hatched out at Easter thinks he is a turkey. He is still hanging out with the poult. Rusty is still romancing the d'Uccle girls. Even is I do hatch more eggs who knows what I'll get...

Sweetest little guy right here! He'll sit on my lap in the yard and let me pet him forever.

He jumps up on my shoulder, settles down, and hangs out there. Such a doll. He's going to be a very handsome little man.

This little baby is a sweetie too. And quite the bug destroying machine. She's right at my heels when she knows I'm about to lift pots with juicy little treasures underneath. She snipes bugs from the others lightning quick.

These d'anver are all really friendly actually. I love this breed!

There's my itty bitty oddball mystery bird in the back there. ;-)

Just wanted to share a pic of my new baby. It's a D'Uccle/d'Anver cross, but I thought it was cute enough to share here without anyone minding. Aubrey, the one chick I hatched from your eggs is doing great, I will post a pic of him tomorrow:) I figured out that my humidity in the incubator was indeed too high, I adjusted it now and had a successful hatch. Hopefully I can get some more Boggy bottom eggs next year!

The seven little D'Anvers are 5 and 4 weeks old now. I think I have a Mille pair, a Porcelain pair and a Porcelain trio. Could be wrong and a couple more weeks should tell for certain. Maura's were completely stolen from her and they are being mothered by Penny, Carly, Mina and Aimee. No one bothers them at all, of course, and the two roosters are super great dads, especially Spike, who loves chicks.
