d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

on the millies, like was being said, they get twisted around a lot and each person has their favorite look.
personally I love the type on 33, she looks very nice in that case. But I hate the pale color. Her mottling for a young bird dont look bad though

To me the color tone on 36 and 31 is what I go for, 34 aint oo bad either. I would still keep 33 for sure based on type alone, just breed her to a good colored male and they'll be fine.

the mottling on 34 looks good as does 35 for that matter for young birds. The others are a bit white around the head and neck areas for pullets. They'll be really white in the long run I think. But I'd still keep 'em to breed with. Once you get a strong flock going, then start culling. I'd mainly pick for over all type right now, color will come easily with time. and it's hard to always get 100% perfect looking birds even from the best of the best when it comes to any type of mottled color.

One thing I do try to look for is at least a bit of tail tipping in white as pullets. You want a good bold tip on each one when they mature. Some times they miss that, so ones with none at all would be watched.

The white head is a common thing in them too. Each feather is supposed to be tipped in black and finished out in white. When you get to the head the feathers get tiny and a ton of them, so you often get a overly white looking head. That's a hard one to get around. There were some on the other page that looked decent though, but their type didnt look as good as some of your whiter headed ones...

just part of that ol breeding thing, get part right and part off... just have to keep playing around with it and it'll all come together !

Hi all...she and DH are okay but temporarily displaced. The birds are all safe and they are being taken care of in daily trips. But it looks to be some time yet before Cyn and DH can live in their home again. Power was restored enough to allow for heat lamps on her coops.

I will update you all when she cannot. As for me...been sick and down with my thyroid again and dropped back to 81 lbs so am dealing with that mess again. Thank heavens for my teenager Cheyenne because I could not have done my chicken chores without her.

I promise to post more from the HLH zone soon.
Thanks for the update, and you take care of your self.

JJ my darling sparring partner. Have missed you. The HLH is growing strong...

Will continue to update....all of Cyn's electronics are being picked up tomorrow for cleaning and inspecting so she may not post for a few days herself.

Here is my favorite Millie hen she is a year nad a half. could stand to be a little darker but I like her pattern. Black and white on just about every feather, and the double wing bar.She looks alot whiter in the picture than in real life. That is the roo's chest behind her, He's pretty dark.

The whole group.
