d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Following. We have one Quail D'anver roo who I refer to as the Little Nazi. He isn't mean, but seems to march everywhere he goes. Had two, but lost one to a dog attack.

I have a Dun Cuckoo pullet that pecks and tugs on my pant leg when I am getting their feed in the morning. She makes me laugh! Then there is the pullet who was her hatch mate that is a Khaki Quail that attacks me like a rooster!! But she doesn't back off when I push her away. She just keeps coming at me! Sheesh! Good thing she is adorable or she would be a goner

Aubrey, are some of your pullets this aggressive? These two girls from you have attitude, but I just LOVE all 3 of the pullets and 2 roosters!

None of my pullets are mean, never had one like that. Some that are raised in larger groups are standoffish until they approach laying age. Maura was like that, but she's not skittish any longer. Most of them want to be held and cuddled 24/7, like my Penny.
Spike is super sweet. Aubrey only attacks when I have a camera, or at least, he threatens to now in his 'old age'. The younger male flogged me in the back today, just jumped from a lower roost bar when I was distracted by a pullet wanting attention. It's really stupid since you barely feel it. They don't get spurs until much later and even Spike at a year old doesn't have any. Rusty2 thinks he's scary, but he's just an irritating chicken nugget.

Thank you. The dog belonged to my 9 yr old and is in the process of going to the Humane Society (no kill facility) this week. It took me a while to get her placed. A really sweet dog just not for someone with birds.

Nope, never had an aggressive girl.. maybe she has gender issues lol.... I have some aggressive at feed time , well greedy would be a better word. And some that don't like new girls going in their pen. But never toward me.

Must be because she is that super rare khaki quail color

Come to think of it, I think it started when I put the 3 bantam buff Brahma pullets in with my d'Anvers. Those d'Anvers are really aggressive towards other birds!!

Ours seemed to be neither mean or attention seekers. They will come up and eat out of our hands, but don't want to be held. They stayed together all the time until they got into a fight and almost picked each others faces bald. They were just pitiful looking then and after seemed to go their separate ways. Sad that I only have one left now but getting some eggs and will hopefully have him some pullets this summer. I do have a Gold Laced Seabright and Milli Fleur that I have no roo to go with that I have thought about putting with him, but the two moved out of their coop and into the barn with the LF flock and I don't know how those little girls would do in there with the turkeys and goats too.
